It’s finally primary day for Republicans in South Carolina and it looks like years of planning for the campaigns in compitition may all come down to weather. Bad weather.
I cast my vote early, so I won’t be personally going into any polling places, but I plan to scope out some of the Columbia-area precincts to [...]
Yep, it’s snowing in South Carolina. If you live in the Upstate, you no doubt know this already as reports are that you folks are experiencing “blizzard-like conditions.”
If you live in the Midlands, then look out your window and you will see light snowflakes. And if you live in the LowCountry or elsewhere, then [...]
The Palmetto Scoop has learned that Gov. Mark Sanford will appoint former U.S Attorney Reggie Lloyd the next Director of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. Lloyd will replace long-serving SLED chief Robert Stewart, who resigned in November.
Major Mark Keel has been serving as the interim director since Stewart’s departure.
Today marks the final day of 2007 and, all in all, it was a pretty good year for The Palmetto Scoop. We got a lot accomplished (going from a mere thought to a Newsweek-syndicated blog in less than eight months), we made a few friends, we broke some big stories, we covered some significant [...]

The Palmetto Scoop is proud to welcome South Carolina native and Citadel graduate Will Armstrong as our newest contributor. Will, who has a BS is civil engineering, says he has “an affinity for the outdoors, bourbon, and reality television” and rather than being politically partisan, likes to think of himself as “the party, son!” [...]
Speaking at The Citadel today, presidential hopeful Fred Thompson gave the “I want to beef up the military” stump speech that has become compulsory for Republican presidential candidates stopping at the official military college of South Carolina. But Thompson, closely trailing in most S.C. polls, took on frontrunner Rudy Giuliani by trumping the former [...]
Last Friday night, 24-year-old Kyle Fleischmann (pictured above), a friend of a good friend, disappeared from Charlotte’s Buckhead Saloon. A security camera showed him leaving by himself at 2:20 a.m. and cell phone records show he made three phone calls to friends between then and 3:30 a.m., but little is known about what happened [...]
