In Pictures: Xolani Khumalo Back In Court For Allegedly Killing Robert Varrie

It is not yet uhuru for Xolani Khumalo, who stands accused of killing Robert Varrie during the recording of an unaired episode of his drug-busting reality show Sizokothula.

The killing reverberated across South Africa at the time and divided netizens, with some stating that he should be prosecuted for killing Varrie. Some pointed out that he was on a mission that would rid South Africa of drugs and should therefore be set free.

Ultimately, of course, it is left for the courts to determine what should be done in his case. Khumalo had appeared in court previously. He made his second appearance at the Ridge Magistrate’s Court, which his supporters thronged to support him. Family members of the late Varrie were also on the ground. The court was filled to capacity.

According to the state prosecutor, the police had finished taking statements and the postmortem has also been submitted. It is now left for the director of public prosecution to determine whether the case should be transferred to the high court for trial. In the interim, the case stands deferred to November 21.

Khumalo had a rousing welcome from his supporters as he stepped out of the courtroom. Some of them carried placards calling for his freedom.
