TPS Cartoonist Mike Beckom won 2 of 3 possible awards for cartooning

The South Carolina Press Association (SCPA) has leaked a list of its annual News Contest Awards and The Palmetto Scoop cartoonist Mike Beckom has won two awards.

Beckom dominated the “Cartoon or Humorous Illustration” division, taking both first and third place. Beckom is the first person to win two SCPA awards in the same year for cartooning.

The winning toons included the “No Ka-Boom on the Moon” from Oct. 12 and “Not that kind of Tea Party” from April 16.

I personally think he should have won an award for his April 27 toon “Not all press is good press” about Congressman Gresham Barrett “love fest” at a Greenville Tea Party.
