MEN’S HEALTH LIST GIVES SC’S CAPITAL CITY DUBIOUS DISTINCTION

It could be the overwhelming number of local watering holes, or it could be the overwhelming number of lobbyists and elected officials, but South Carolina’s capital city has been named one of America’s “drunkest” locations.

Men’s Health magazine on Thursday unveiled their list of America’s drunkest cities and Columbia came in No. 13 overall. Nice.

Columbia will receive it’s national place in the spotlight when the list is published in the March edition of the magazine.

Almost as shocking as Columbia’s appearance at the top of the list was the fact that Boston bested Salt Lake City, Utah for the least drunk city on the list.

Closer to Columbia’s end, Fresno, Calif. took the most drunk spot, while Reno, Nev. and Billings, Mont. took the silver and gold, respectively.

The list was comprised of data such as death rates from alcoholic liver disease, frequency of binge-drinking and alcohol-related wrecks in the past month, number of DUI arrests, and severity of DUI penalties.
