CONGRESSMAN UNDECIDED ON TAX RELIEF FOR PET OWNERS
A new bill before Congress would create a $3,500 tax break for families that own pets. This despite a $1.26 trillion federal budget shortfall and numerous other areas where people are quite literally taxed to death.
And while most conservative members of Congress with half a brain would immediately dismiss this legislation, one South Carolina Congressman says he’s still giving it some consideration.
Congressman Gresham Barrett, ever the slow Zebra, told The State newspaper that he still hasn’t made up his mind as to whether he will support the bill or not.
“Since H.R. 3501 has not been slated for a vote on the House floor in the foreseeable future, the congressman has not yet formed an opinion on this legislation,” said Barrett’s press secretary Emily Tyner.
Say what?
While families with children get almost no tax relief, Barrett is weighing a plan to give pet owners a special tax credit?
Even Congressman Bob Inglis, who is usually batshat crazy, thinks this is a ridiculous idea.
“My family and I are pet owners, but the idea of a pet tax credit is for the birds,” said Inglis.
Barrett’s non-position on one of the dumbest pieces of legislation to come before Congress this year offers a little more insight into his flip-flop on a massive federal bank bailout bill and the rest of his atrocious voting record.

I am the happy owner of two wonderful cats. My wife and I chose to care for them. They are not humans – they are pets. This is what is wrong with our tax code – it is at the whim of crazy legislators. This is why we need the FairTax Act, which Rep. Barrett has co-sponsored.
No tax breaks for pets. Next thing will be pet rock tax breaks. Can I claim my gavel driveway? Got a million deductions eagerly awaiting the answer…
come on… mandate pet insurance and get it over with
