SENATOR: ATTORNEY GENERAL IS ‘RIGHT CANDIDATE’ FOR SC GOV.
The last Republican nominee for president is asking South Carolina voters to support his pick to be the next Republican nominee for governor in South Carolina.
U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) sent an email to South Carolina residents on Thursday asking them to “join me in supporting Henry McMaster” because he “is the right candidate for Governor.”
McMaster, the state’s attorney general, is running in the GOP primary to take over for Gov. Mark Sanford.
“There has never been a time in our history when it was more important than it is today to elect leaders with integrity, experience, good judgment and solid conservative principles,” McCain wrote in the email. “You have such a leader in Henry McMaster, who, as you know, is now running for Governor of South Carolina.”
The Arizona senator noted that “South Carolina occupies a special place in my heart” and that he was supporting McMaster because he “truly has earned a national reputation for his effective crackdown on domestic violence, internet predators, polluters and white collar criminals who ruin lives and exploit the innocent. Henry has always been faithful to the core conservative values we share.”
McCain won the South Carolina presidential primary in January 2008 with 33 percent of the vote. He went on to win the GOP nomination but lost to President Barack Obama in the general election.
In March, McCain held a fundraiser for McMaster in Washington.

McCain’s endorsement is meaningless. McCain is one of those Washington hypocrites who trampled on the Constitution and called it “compromise.”
We need to restore South Carolina’s Sovereignty…we need a strong Patriot in the statehouse who will insist on a state-focused nation with NO interference from a central government. In short, let’s enforce the 10th amendment. If he’s endorsed by McCain, McMaster is not the fella who will do it.
McCain endorsing McMaster is like Hitler endorsing Goebbels or Fidel Castro endorsing his brother, or Ricky endorsing Lucy, or Cheech endorsing Chong, or Lindsey Graham endorsing Lindsey Graham or–well, you get the idea.
It’s one clown endorsing another and just as laughable.
