DISGRACED GOVERNOR PULLING ONLY 3% IN FAILBLOG.ORG POLL

Gov. Mark Sanford’s five day disappearance and admission to an affair with a woman from Argentina has resulted in a divorce, a near impeachment, and a rock-bottom approval rating. And now, it may earn him the FAILBlog.org “Top FAIL of 2009.”

The website put together a list of more than a dozen candidates for “the top FAILs around the world, the top FAIL people, and the top FAILBlog videos and pictures of 2009″ and asked its hundreds of thousands of daily visitors to cast their vote.

Sanford has some tough competition. The disgraced governor is up against Richard Heene’s Balloon Boy Hoax, David Letterman’s Sex Scandal, and Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s Attempt to Sell President Obama’s Senate Seat.

As of Sunday afternoon, Sanford was tied for eighth place with 1,175 votes — roughly 3 percent of the total cast. Kanye West’s Outburst at the Video Music Awards led the pack with 38 percent of the vote.
