Celebrated golfer Tiger Woods reportedly turned down a whopping $800 million offer to play in the LIV Golf series, according to CEO Greg Norman.
The LIV Golf series is backed by the Saudi government and is thought to be one of the most prestigious in the world.
Greg Norman, himself a one-time number-one golfer, was speaking to Fox News’s Tucker Carlson when he revealed how much Woods had turned down. He also noted the offer came at the time he was serving as CEO.
He also hinted at Tiger Woods being a great golfer and powerful, adding that the California native was actually made the offer before he became CEO, and the offer returned when he took the CEO position at LIV Golf.
The inaugural golf series provoked controversies amid claims that it snatched the likes of Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka from the PGA Tour and paid them humongous sums for joining the LIV and even bigger sums for winning.
It’s unclear why Tiger turned down the offer. But the decision was greeted with pleasure from some sections of the golf universe. However, some of his fans are incredulous that he should turn down such a humongous sum.
Would he accept a larger offer? Time will tell.
