LT. GOV. CANDIDATE SAYS SITE WAS ATTACKED FROM MIDDLE EAST, CONNECTED TO MILITARY SERVICE

A candidate for South Carolina lieutenant governor said Tuesday that his campaign website had been hacked, possibly by Islamic terrorists.

Bill Connor, a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves who served in Afghanistan, said that www.VoteConnor.com by someone from the Middle East and was connected to his military service.

“From Garmsir to Fort Hood, we face in radical Islam an enemy whose attacks range from petty web hacks to mass murder,” Connor said in a statement. “What was done to our campaign website is nothing compared to the real damage that Islamists can do to kill our citizens and undermine our laws and Constitution. We have seen that in attacks against US soldiers and civilians alike around the globe.”

According to the FITS News blog, the hacked website read “this is hacked & owned” and was signed “Dr. HiaD.” The site also featured what appeared to be Islamic-Arabic lettering.

“Taliban threats didn’t stop me from doing my job in Afghanistan, and Islamist threats certainly won’t keep me from doing the job of lieutenant governor in South Carolina,” said Connor. “I do hope this serves as a wakeup call to the continuing danger we face in South Carolina from the threat of radical Islam and shari’a law.”

Connor’s website has since been restored to a splash page that says “full site coming soon.”

    Geez, talk about campaign spin.

Groups with loose political agendas or ethic group pride carry out mass website defacements all the time. They hack and trash dozens, many of which are ordinary websites. A few months ago, they trashed my company’s corporate website – http://www.USGroupInc.com.

Odds are the defacement of Connor’s website was purely at random. Nothing heroic or noble about it. Just piss poor web server security. Connor should change his website hosting service and stop trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

(Can’t wait to see the shots they throw at me over this)
