REP AIRS STATEWIDE AD DEFENDING SENATOR AGAINST MISLEADING ATTACKS
Thousands of readers on The Palmetto Scoop learned earlier this month that the group attacking Sen. Lindsey Graham for working to expand domestic alternative energy resources is actually a front group for big oil companies.
And it appears TPS wasn’t the only one who uncovered this disturbing fact. A group defending Graham is using the same information in a television ad defending Graham.
The Republicans for Environmental Protection (REP) are airing a new ad called “Graham fights for us” (view the ad above).
In the ad, REP points out that “the oil companies who brought you $4 gas and soaring energy bills are now funding attack ads for a group called the American Energy Alliance (AEA) against our Senator, Lindsey Graham.”
As TPS discovered, AEA is a self-described “front group” for the Institute for Energy Research (IER). The IER is funded by big oil companies, including hundreds of thousands of dollars from ExxonMobil in the last decade alone.
The AEA attacks are falsely claiming that Graham “supports a national energy tax called cap-and-trade.”
The truth is that Graham has made his position clear: He will not support any form of caps on carbon pollution unless the Democrats agree to green-light the expansion of nuclear energy, offshore drilling, clean coal and natural gas as energy alternatives to create new jobs and to end American dependence on foreign oil.
And that’s a point REP is trying to clarify to misled South Carolinians.
“Sen. Graham is being attacked by self-serving oil industry groups for his work to advance a sensible energy policy for our country,” REP Vice President for Government and Political Affairs David Jenkins said. “We are standing up for Sen. Graham, a true conservative who is taking responsibility for protecting our country from the energy security and climate risks that we face.”
The REP said their ad will be broadcast on cable and network stations throughout South Carolina.

Graham himself has said he supports the idea of a cap-and-trade bill. But the problem isn’t so much that he (not surprisingly, given his left-leaning tendencies of late) supports the bill, but that he supports any kind of cap on emissions at all. The global warming issue is nothing more than a widely orchestrated extortion attempt, as seen in the leaked emails from climate change
expertscharlatans. That Graham is willing to be a party to any of it–even in its smallest form–is worthy of a vote to recall.Graham does not support the Democrat Cap and Trade bill. He did write an OP ED with Senator Kerry supporting the idea of a bi-partisan effort with regard to energy policy, including development of nuclear power and electric vehicles.
South Carolina is positioned to be a producer in both of these areas. We could start reversing our job losses by investing in extraction.
About the only disturbing factual statement by Graham in the Op Ed was Graham’s concession global warming was a real. The science supporting that statement is crumbling fast now in view of leaked email proving the warming alarmists have manufactured science to support their agenda.
