TIGERS DEFEAT VIRGINIA, 34-21, HEADED TO ACC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

Clemson shot up the rankings this week with a win over yet another ACC “powerhouse.”

The Tigers knocked off Virginia in Clemson Saturday, 34-21, to pick up their eighth win on the season and earn a spot in the ACC championship game.

“This is just an extremely special day,” Head Coach Dabo Swinney said.

“We’re happy, very happy,” said Clemson athletic director Terry Don Phillips.

But the Cavaliers, at only 3-8, gave Clemson a run for their money.

The game was tied at 14 midway through the second quarter. Clemson took a 24-21 lead into the half before taking on 10 points in the second half to secure the win.

Virginia held Clemson senior C.J. Spiller to a mere 58 yards rushing in the final home game of his collegiate career. Tiger quarterback Kyle Parker was 19-of-26 for 234 yards and two touchdowns.

The win put Clemson at No. 18 in the BCS standings, No . 15 in the Associated Press top 25 poll, and No. 16 in the USA Today poll. It also earned Swinney a roughly $1 million annual bonus.

Clemson has won six straight games after starting the year 2-3. The Tigers face South Carolina in Columbia on Nov. 28 before facing Georgia Tech for the ACC crown on Dec. 5.

    This website is a joke.

First, the final wasn’t 31-24. It was 34-21.

Second, nobody has ever claimed UVA was a powerhouse. Not sure why there was a need to degrade a win on Senior Day for the Tigers.

    Moron.

Gamecock fans are amazing. You lose 6 of the last 7 to Clemson (forget the overall series) and you still write your blog with some air of superiority. Quit hiring coaches that already have one foot out the door of coaching and that are just trying to create a job for their sons and you might not flop at the end of every season.

Why put “powerhouse” in quotes? Who are you quoting? Who claimed Virginia is a “powerhouse”?

By putting quotes around a word that no one said, you are being dishonest. Why lie? Yes, it’s a lie to claim that someone called them a “powerhouse” when no one gave any such quote.

Walter — The quotes imply sarcasm. And it refers to the fact that Clemson plays a pretty easy schedule in a mediocre conference yet Tiger fans will tell you otherwise.

Must be frustrating to keep losing year, after year, after year to a team from a weak conference.

Yes the ACC is not as good as the SEC this year.

I guess thats why the ACC has a head to head advantage with the SEC THIS YEAR. Also the acc has more teams in the top 25 than any conference. Including the SEC.

Nice try at a story, don’t let the facts get in the way of a “powerhouse” article. Hack loser,

Talk is cheap and the Cocks just can’t back up their moronic trash talking. It’s the same ole song and dance every year. When it’s time to back up their pathetic drivel, they fold as soon as they see the guys in orange run on the field.
We’re coming, Cocks. And we’re gonna whup ya again.

I am so tired of hearing the only argument shamecock fans can come up with is that SEC is better than ACC. That may be true. But it sure would be a better argument if you all did not finish second to last in your division only in front of a 2-10 (who you only beat by 4) Vandy. So yes, you may be in a superior conference but you are not superior.

Clemson dominatated the coots when they were in the ACC. They lefted and became an independent due to high academics standards and we crushed them. When the SEC needed a 12th team th dominance continues.

The coots play in the SEC but what do you bring to the SEC. When you start pulling your on weight then start talking. Man you guys piggy back off of Florida and Alabama your only 2 teams in the conference, the rest are mediocre. If you would worry about Carolina as much as you do Clemson maybe your program would be better.
