ALABAMA TV STATION LEARNS TWITTER, BILLBOARDS DON’T MIX
A trio of of television anchors in Mobile, Ala. have learned the hard way that Twitter and electronic billboards don’t mix very well.
A reader e-mailed me the unintentionally humorous photo above of a billboard for WPMI-TV.
Next to the image of three WPMI anchors is a “right now on Twitter” screen. Giving drivers updates on Twitter in real time as they pass by the billboard is pretty cool, right? Well, it is, unless the update says “3 Accused of Gang Rape in Monroeville.”
That Tweet was posted on Wednesday afternoon and a thrifty driver grabbed a photo of the unfortunate side-by-side.
And, of course, there’s a South Carolina connection.
Greg Peterson (the guy on the far left) is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and was even a reporter in Charleston.
Naturally, I thought this picture was absolutely perfect for the FAIL Blog. So I submitted it. Y’all enjoy!

I am a contrarian, so I think this would be GREAT for the TV station. It wasn’t intentional, and it is funny, so it can get a lot of publicity for the station that they wouldn’t have gotten otherwise.
I’d file it under “luck” instead of “fail”.
Of course, my opinion would be different if one of the anchors was actually involved in the rape …

Unfortunately people still have to learn that not everything they see on the Internet in this case billboard is exactly what it seem to be, personally as a long time web surfer I would not fall for this Billboard, but I can see people who are less trained in the art of Internet bullalarming could speed by and be fooled.
however you have to be pretty stupid to think those 3 were the accused.

The speed at which Twitter updates, this is highly unlikely.
This country has become so tabloid, folks will do anything to get cheap publicity from a drug induced populace who don’t know any better.

Brian: Thanks for pointing out the controversy over this billboard for me. I guess I passed those reading comprehension courses as I saw the billboard as two distinct areas. One showing the anchors and one for twitter updates with no connection, in my mind, between the two.
I wouldn’t call this a fail, I would call anyone ignorant enough to not properly make the distinction a failure of basic reading comprehension.
Or maybe I fail for not seeing why this was worthy of being spread across the internet or making headlines.

What’s up ya’ll?
My name is Billy, I just wanted to introduce myself since I am new to this site…
I am new to the internet but I am learning alot real fasssst!
I’m a Hair Stylist and devoted father.
The things I love most in life are family, friends and racing.
On week days you’ll usually find me working. On the weekends I like to party and watch nascar.
My idea of the perfect day would start with breakfast. And then I’d go to the a football game. Later I’d eat a great dinner from uGO FlameDisk. And I’d top it all off by snuggling with my lover.
I also love hip hop videos.
Anyways it’s wonderfull to be a part of your site!
Thanks
