TEENY-BOPPER CONCERT CONFLICT MAY HAVE CAUSED EARLY START

It’s the biggest football game of the year in the Palmetto State, but Clemson and South Carolina fans were universally outraged by Monday’s announcement that the Nov. 28 matchup between the two teams in Columbia would kick off at noon.

“There’s nothing worse than a noon game,” one Gamecock fan griped to The Palmetto Scoop. “Who the hell wants to start tailgating and drinking at 9 a.m.? This is total bull [expletive]. What kind of evil person would to this?”

At first I figured that “evil person” was Columbia City Councilman Daniel Rickenmann, who has proposed the “genius” idea of having more noon games. His logic had something to do with the idea that fans would hang around Columbia after the game and go out to dinner and stimulate the city’s miserable economy.

Then I heard that ESPN was broadcasting the game live and assumed the start time was set because of that.

But then I began getting word of another, more disturbing rumor: Miley Cyrus was to blame.

It’s been known for months that the teeny-bopper was playing a show across town at the Colonial Life Arena on the same night as the USC-Clemson game. The concert conflict forced adult fans from both teams to choose between their kids or football.

But apparently officials from the schools found a way to accommodate these torn fans by setting a 12 p.m. kickoff for a game that would likely otherwise begin later in the evening.

And I certainly hope all those people are happy, because I can think of a few dozen thousand other people who are less-than-thrilled.

UPDATE: A USC fraternity allegedly booked the performer Nelly to play at their tailgating spot at night after the game. Given that the game will be over around 3 p.m. and most people will be headed out within a few hours after that, they better hope he’ll agree to play earlier.

What a bunch of whimpy Football fans! Our games out here on the West Coast start at 1:00 pm and we DO tailgate, starting (including drinking beer)EARLIER than 9:00 am.

Bruce, the fact is that we were supposed to have a night game but our game (and I say our because I’m a Clemson student) was moved because of Miley Cyrus!!! It’s frustrating for us and no, not all of your games start at 1.

trust me, the main reason it starts so early is because both teams suck. they always put the crappy teams in the early slot.

What you retarded Republicans don’t know about the Clemson-SC past start times. In 1892 the game started at 2 AM when Clemson’s milita marching band armed with Springfield rifles charge the State Fairgrounds and shot every chicken at the Fair…….

Bruce, you just stay on the west coast, how about that? When we are given noon games, earlier than 1pm you idiot, we tailgate and drink at 8. What the fan was saying is that he’d prefer a later game. Next time you want to talk shit to a southerner, don’t do it on a South Carolina website.

is that really true?? because if it is that’s ridiculous!!! i love miley cyrus but not when it conflicts with the biggest game in south carolina!! yet alone the biggest rivalry game in college football.

First of all… Bruce, get a life. Perhaps the person in question does not want to drink before 9 AM because he has more class than that.

MES… you would be pissed of, too, if the BIGGEST game of your favorite team’s season got pushed to a shitty time slot because of a Disney Channel star’s concert and don’t even try to deny it.

And ed, both teams have sucked in the past and not been pushed to such a ridiculous time slot.

Now I can finally get to my opinion… put the game back at it’s original time and HIRE A BABYSITTER to take the kids to the concert. I’m sure any parent who is that big of a football fan can find someone who doesn’t care who would be willing to take the kids to the concert. They might charge time and a half for the brain damage that would ensue, but money is money and I am one of many college aged babysitters who would endure the torture of listening to Miley Cyrus for a night if I was paid well enough. That’s what earplugs are for anyway.

Clemson, I am a clemson fan, and i think this rivalry is huge but to call it the biggest rivalry game in college football just makes you sound like an absolute moron. For you Bruce, what the hell do you care about this game if youre on the west coast? Why dont you just get to your tailgate spot for your 1pm game (which by the way, is later that noon the last time i checked) before nine and have you a wonderful day and be an ignorant ass elsewhere. And for you, Ed, I cant see how a team can be in the top 20 and suck….I guess by your logic, there are about a couple of good teams in football? And with win saturday, Clemson is playing in tampa in the ACC championship game. I know the atlantic division is down, but you dont make it to a major conference game by “sucking.” So you can just go be an ignorant ass elsewhere also along with your buddy Bruce.

Miley’s concert was booked months ago…the decision to have the game at noon was not hers. Bruce you are a piece of shit.

hahaha, CU2010 just said everything perfectly. just to add to it: ed, they do not always put the crappy teams in the early slot because even the best teams have played the early games this year. and by best i mean Florida and Alabama who happen to 1 and 2 the last time i checked that meant they were pretty good

Junior, even though the concert was booked months ago, Carolina and Clemson have had this game on their schedules for over a year. They play on that day most every year. She knew when she scheduled her concert that the game was in Columbia on that day, so yes, it is her fault

Cry Baby Tea Bagger, Wow didn’t know our screen should display our sexual orientation! Any how, our first game was a Sakerlina win (one of only a few) 12-6 in 1896 MORON!

    G-O T-I-G-E-R-S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who cares!!!!! Does this game really mean anything?

It’s not about drinking at 9 a.m. or anything like that, what sucks is that the entire east side of the stadium will be blinded by the sun for the entire game. And yes, this game means alot to people who are fans of these teams, just because you might not watch the game doesn’t mean there aren’t people who genuinely care about the outcome. You obviously cared enough to read this article and comment on it.

Oh my gosh! Who cares what time Clemson beats S.C.? Really be glad it will be over early so you can to have a better night. Plus it will give Spurrier time to go home and put his house on the market and the hell out of Columbia. It will happen by the way, see when ever a coach makes a point to say he is returning it’s because he is not.

I stand by my post. REAL fans don’t whine about when their teams play. I’ve had my team play games on Christmas. Guess what? I was there for the game AND the tailgate party.

I also go to games regardless of the weather.

It all comes down to supporting your team;rain or shine,Miley Cyrus or not.

The fact is none of yall know what your talking about except for maybe one or two of ya. If your on the west coast then you will never have room to talk about college football. College football is nothing like how it is here in the southeast. I can definitly promise you that. Second the game should have never been moved to 12:00 because regardless weither its even on tv or not, people will pack that place out. If its a 12:00 or 8:00, everybody will be there bright and early pregamming.

    Bruce,
Get a life. You’re a west coast football fan, which means, despite the rivalry, fans of both USC and Clemson will agree that you don’t know shit about college football in general or tailgating for college football in particular. While it’s nice to hear that you spend your time on Christmas drinking as opposed to spending it somewhere else, like church or with your family perhaps, it doesn’t change the fact that you don’t know what you’re talking about . . . unless that was a coded way of saying that you’re a drunk, and in that case, congratulations on being able to operate a computer.

    1. Miley didn’t schedule her concert. She’s an ignorant you-know-what when it comes to anything besides partying

    2. Yall, i’m a carolina fan and all, but this is getting way out of hand, the other games have been later, so one out of an entire season won’t kill you.
