19-YEAR-OLD DANZIEL CHAPMAN CHARGED WITH 3 COUNTS OF MURDER
Police have arrested a 19-year-old Walterboro man and charged him with three counts of murder after a horrific drive-by shooting in the Lowcountry town Monday night.
The State Law Enforcement Division and the Walterboro Police Department said Danziel Chapman (mug shot here) was being held at the Colleton County Detention Center in connection with the shooting that left six others injured.
Three people were reportedly slain by Chapman, including a 20-month-old girl.
Eyewitness reports claimed Chapman used an AK-47. A bullet recovered from one of those injured as well as shells at the scene of the crime were consistent with those statements.
The shooting happened around 10 p.m. Monday night when family members were sitting outside their home at the corner of Gerideau and McDaniel streets watching football and playing cards. Chapman allegedly pulled to a stop sign in a black BMW and opened fire before driving off.
Not surprisingly, Chapman has a criminal record. A SLED report showed that Chapman had been charged by Walterboro Police with assault and battery with intent to kill in November 2008.
A bond hearing for Chapman has not yet been set, but let’s all hope the judge has enough common sense not to let this guy roam free while he awaits trial.

Why was he free? One would think that if someone is charged with battery with intent to kill, he could not be released on bail, he would be too dangerous.
My heart aches for the Kittrell family. Aleisha and I went to school together, grew up together, were pregnant together. I can’t imagine what she is going through . I look at my son, the same age as Shaniya, and it is so painful to know an innocent child had to be a victim in something that should had never happened! I pray that they find who did this to this family!
