VEREEN PLEADED GUILTY TO HAVING SEX WITH ANIMAL FOR 2ND TIME IN LAST 2 YEARS
The Horry County man who pleaded guilty for the second time in two years to having sex with a horse will spend three years in jail.
Rodell Vereen, 50, was charged with buggery in July after a video camera at the Lazy B Stables in Conway caught him sexually abusing the animal. The camera was installed because Vereen was caught doing the same thing to the same horse in 2007.
In addition to the three year sentence, the court gave Vereen two years probation and ordered him to never again go near the stable. When he was caught and held at shotgun point by the stable’s owner, Barbara Kenley, Vereen was out on probation from his previous buggery offense.
At his court hearing Wednesday, though, Vereen was apologetic.
“I’m sorry about what I’ve done,” he said. “I didn’t mean to do it. It’s my fault. I’m sorry for what I’ve done to myself.”
Kenley told the Myrtle Beach Sun News that she was happy with the verdict but wished Vereen had gotten a tougher sentence.
“I’ve been through hell for the last year and it’s caused a lot of hardship,” Kenley said. “There’s a lot of ridicule and jokes going around about this thing. And a person can only take so much.”
