SCGOP SENDS VOLUNTEERS TO COMMONWEALTH, MCMASTER: LET’S SEND OBAMA A MESSAGE

In the off-year abyss of post-presidential elections, politicos across the country look for something — anything — to keep them sharp.

Fortunately, the Commonwealth of Virginia (and a few others) is holding their gubernatorial election next week. Many observers are looking to that race as a bellwether for the 2010 midterm elections.

Until late, the race was close. Republican former Attorney General Bob McDonnell was neck-and-neck with Democrat State Senator Creigh Deeds.

But McDonnell has recently opened up a commanding 17-point lead. Even so, Republicans from all over are working together to make sure that McDonnell is elected.

On Friday, the South Carolina Republican Party sent a team of volunteers to the Old Dominion State. The group of young conservative activists, including Political Director Matt Nichols and Deputy Political Director Kurt Pickhardt, will work throughout Virginia to get ou the vote for McDonnell.

And McDonnell’s South Carolina colleague Henry McMaster is encouraging Palmetto Staters to “send President Barack Obama a message” by helping elect his fellow attorney general.

“Like you and I, Bob McDonnell believes that if government is limited, individual liberty flourishes,” McMaster wrote in an email to supporters. “Bob’s election would send Barack Obama a clear message that Americans reject Democrat efforts to expand the reach of big government into every facet of our lives. On Tuesday, voters in Virginia have the historic opportunity to elect Bob as their next governor.”

McMaster asked supporters to visit McDonnell’s website and “take action.”

Proud of the SC Republican Party for fighting hard for the cause. It’s great to see them get after the Democrats on Democrat turf. Kurt Pickhardt has been doing the heavy lifting in the political department at headquarters and it’s great to see him get credit where it’s due.
