POLICE CHIEF ARRESTED FOR DISORDERLY CONDUCT, PUBLIC INTOXICATION
Officials in the tiny South Carolina town of Atlantic Beach just can’t seem to stay out of jail.
First, Mayor Irene Armstrong was indicted on bribery charges. Then the woman who beat her in an election by only 13 votes, Retha Pierce, was arrested… FOUR TIMES.
Now, the police chief has landed himself behind bars for disorderly conduct and public intoxication.
Randy Rizzo, 39, of Conway, was booked at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Horry County just after 3 a.m. Wednesday on the charges. Rizzo reportedly paid a $250 fine and was released an hour later.
A date for Rizzo to appear before a judge has not yet been set.
Ironically, it was Rizzo who arrested Pierce (above right with Pierce during that arrest) for disorderly conduct in March.
Keep in mind that Atlantic Beach has a whopping 351 residents. Yet these three town officials have been jailed a combined six times in the last two years.
You do the math on that and you’ll probably agree: I think someone needs to do a little house cleaning in Atlantic Beach.

Better idea-unincorporate Atlanatic Beach and allow North Myrtle and Myrtle Beach to split the remaining carcass. The only obstacle will be a possible intervention by DOJ officals. Otherwise Atlantic Beach will continue to another black eye for the grandstrand; as if John Rhodes and Myrtle Beach were not enough of a black eye…
