SENATOR SAYS GOVERNMENT SHOULDN’T BE ABOVE GOVERNMENT-RUN PLANIF IMPOSED ON AMERICANS
If socialized health care is good enough for the American people, it’s good enough for members of Congress. That’s the message from Sen. Lindsey Graham to his Congressional colleagues, who are considering a sweeping healthcare bill that includes a government-run, public option.
“If we pass a law that says a public option will be made available, I think people like myself should get out of this plan and go into the public option,” Graham told CBS News.
And that current plan is pretty cushy.
Graham said Congressional members are currently offered five different premium healthcare plans, while the majority of Americans have only one option. And whichever plan they choose, they can keep it for life — even after they leave Congress.
Members of Congress also pay almost the same premium as most Americans, but earn more than three times the medium household income. And they get other perks like in-office, 24-hour physicians and no pre-existing condition disqualifications for receiving coverage.
So no wonder they aren’t likely to give up the healthcare perk anytime soon.
The House and Senate have both voted against every proposal to force members into accepting a public option, despite passing plans to impose one on Americans.
On Tuesday, the Senate Finance Committee approved an $829 billion bill that did not include a public option. But a version passed by the Health, Education, Labor and Pension Committee did include government-run healthcare.
And there is increasing pressure on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat, to include the public insurance plan when the two bills are merged.

Talk talk talk…Linsdey Graham throwing red meat to the very people he hates.
Rest assured, that creep Graham will be standing with Obama as he signs Cap and Trade, and Health Care Reform. graham has gone DC…and he ain’t never coming back.
Screw you Senator…I feel about you like you feel abpout me!
wondering just how many BILLIONS could be saved if the folks who leave office (for whatever reason) should have to forfeit their ‘paid for by us’ insurance perks? What other job do any us know of where you can leave and take your benefits with you? Bet it wasn’t voted on and passed by ‘we the people’!!!
Bold comments coming from someone who just penned an op-ed with John Kerry.
Does this mean that he will vote for ObamaCare as long as Members of Congress have to take the “public option”. Talk about an adventure in missing the point…
