HOMEBOY MICHAEL STEELE CHANNELS HIS INNER-BLACK STEREOTYPES

If the 91 members of the Republican National Committee who helped elect Michael Steele chairman haven’t yet begun to regret their vote, then now’s the time.

The RNC Tuesday unveiled a brand new website at www.GOP.com. And to call it a complete disaster would be to downplay the site’s true awfulness.

Visitors are immediately greeted by the “GOP Faces” banner image — a party logo where the “O” is comprised by a series of “Republicans.”

The banner image overlies a red background with a field of stars — or, as some might call it, the flag of the Soviet Union. I’m not sure what intern thought an ode to Communist Russia was a good idea for the Republican Party’s official website, but good call, genius.

That, however, is only the beginning.

Once the page loads, Steele walks onto the screen from stage left saying, “At GOP.com something new is happening.” And that it is.

As the New York News pointed out, “New GOP Web Site — Now With More Black People!”

That’s because the RNC was less-than-subtle about loading the website with black people; not only Steele, but many of the “GOP faces” including Jackie Robinson and Frederick Douglass. All of this despite the fact that blacks make up roughly 2 percent of the Republican Party.

Best of all, though, Steele’s “personal” blog is titled “What up?” No joke… his blog is called “What up?” Not “what’s up,” but “what up.”

Basically, the website is just like when the Jeffersons “moved on up” and left Archie Bunker in the suburbs. Sadly, the RNC is Archie Bunker in that scenario — hung up on many of the same stereotypes he held regarding African Americans.

In fact, the only thing the website is missing in its attempt to make the RNC more ghetto fabulous is a Michael Steele rap song.

______________

UPDATE: After all of the criticism, Steele quietly changed the name of his blog to “Changing the Game.” How about “Changing the Lame“?

Steele’s blog is called “What’s up” but the link to it and the header graphic on it is: WHAT UP?

“What’s up?” is colloquial. “What up?” is an embarrassing purposeful “urban” grammatical error. Now THAT’S embarrassing…

“Homeboy”? Is that supposed to be “post racial”? All this is, is red meat for mockery reporting as it’s “scoop” someone else’s red meat for mockery.

You are a pedant who for want of a reason to wonder about ideology is fixating on appearances. Like those who immediately dismissed the Tea Party nomenclature as “tea bagging”, i’m going to start calling this type of “no, really, it’s all post-racial even-handed reporting” as “giving a facial”.
