GOVERNOR’S CAR PULLED FOR DOING 85 MPH, NOT TICKETED

When Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer was pulled for speeding in 2006 and not ticketed, Gov. Mark Sanford said he felt “very strongly that preferential treatment should never be a factor when enforcing the law.”

Now, in yet another ironic twist of fate for the disgraced governor, it turns out Sanford may have used preferential treatment to get out of a speeding ticket.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol has released dash-cam video of Sanford’s car being pulled over for doing 85 miles per hour on Oct. 6.

“You got a good reason for going 85?“ Lance Cpl. R.S. Salter asked the State Law Enforcement Division officer who was driving the vehicle on I-385 in the Upstate.

The agent told the officer he was driving the governor, to which Salter said, “that is not a good reason for speeding.“

“Tell him that,” the agent fired back.

Salter then walked around to the passenger side of the vehicle. Sanford opened the window and introduced himself before the two shook hands.

The agent’s boss, SLED Chief Reggie Lloyd, said the behavior was inexcusable and that he would be ticketed.

“He did something that I thought was totally inappropriate, from the standpoint of the trooper, as well as the governor,” Lloyd told The State newspaper, noting that his agency will investigate to see if the agent would be punished. “I think we as an agency owe Trooper Salter, as well as the governor, an apology.”

This latest incident adds to the growing list of problems for Sanford.

The State Ethics Commission is investigating claims that the governor used state aircraft for personal travel, violated state law by using high-priced airfare, and didn’t report the use of private aircraft. The State House of Representatives is also considering impeaching the governor.

Gov. Sanford did not ask the state police officer, “Do you know who I am?”

How do you “get out of a ticket” when you are not driving a car….quite overblown and an obvious setup.

Even though I do not approve of the Governor’s behavior in recent years, in this case, the SLED agent is solely responsible for his actions and his words during this traffic stop and not the Governor. Let the man finish his term with the last ounce of dignity he has left.
