GOP OFFICIALS CONFIRM THAT STATE SEN. WILL CHALLENGE SPRATT

Mick Mulvaney was just elected to the South Carolina State Senate last year, but already he’s apparently ready to move on. Republican officials have confirmed that Mulvaney intends to challenge Congressman John Spratt.

“He’s a strong conservative,” GOP National Committeeman Glenn McCall told the Rock Hill Herald Monday night. “It’s giving the voters a choice, and seeing with these town halls and Freedom Rallies, are people worked up for a moment in time, or will this translate into changing the faces that represent us?”

But Mulvaney faces an uphill battle.

Spratt, 66, has held the seat since 1983. And although it is a largely conservative district, Spratt has never had much difficulty defeating Republican opponents.

Mulvaney’s over-ambition is bad news for another Republican.

State House District 48 GOP nominee Ralph Norman, who lost to Spratt in 2006 despite spending more than $1 million, believed that he would be the presumptive Republican nominee for the district when the 14-term Congressman retires — which he is expected to do in 2012.

Despite that blistering 57-43 loss, Norman believed that a Republican could win against anyone other than Spratt.

But Mulvaney’s likely Congressional bid could make him the new GOP heir apparent. And it puts Norman in a difficult spot — to concede the nomination to Mulvaney or give up the State House seat he is expected to win next month.

Adding to the mix is the fact that both Mulvaney and Norman share the political consulting firm Starboard Communications.

It’s been a tumultuous year for Starboard and it’s been difficult for the firm to recruit candidates for 2010.

Earlier this year, Starboard faced a similar conflict when clients Ted Pitts and Tim Scott both expressed interest in running for lieutenant governor. Starboard couldn’t convince either man to move down the ballot, so they chose Pitts over Scott.

Mulvaney’s decision to move forward with a Congressional bid makes it pretty clear which candidate they will be moving forward with in the fifth Congressional district.

UPDATE: Blogger Bill Folks, who is a close personal friend to Mulvaney, used his smutty blog FITSNews to take a typically childish shot at McCall. Folks made a five sentence post berating McCall for being unable to “keep a secret” and repeatedly referring to him as a “token” Republican because McCall is black.

Bill Folks… truly a class act.

Starboard chose Ted Pitts over Tim Scott for Lt. Gov.?

    Curious.

Starboard is also the firm that employs Mike Green. Green made national headlines this summer with racist jokes about Barack Obama.

    Stay classy Starboard Communications.

Starboard went all Republican creed on some shit and made the calculated risk that Mick Mulvaney’s winning personality was less of a vulnerability against John Spratt than Ralph Norman’s history with illegal aliens.

Gresham Barrett won’t pay Starboard for advice at the top of the ticket.

Ted Pitts won’t either (because he’s broke like that tractor of his from Chapin).

Luckily for Starboard and friends, Mick Mulvaney will be headed to Congress at the same time Sheri Few heads to the Statehouse. And then they’ll be able to pay the light bill in Lexington.

Has anyone seen Sen. Chip Stockman?

He had two close calls – Larry Bigham got 48% in 1994 and 46% two years later, in a district noticably less Republican and with a lot less in the way of resources than Norman and others have had since.

How about that one time you made a website in 2002 Earl? Remember that? I think you do because you reference it every time you try to assert yourself as relevant.

    Dear Palmetto Scoop readers,

You people are inbred morons. “Token” is not an insult to McCall. I don’t know the man. It IS, however, an insult to the SCGOP – a vapid, substance-less, devoid of principle political party that continues to trumpet its non-existent “diversity.”

Of course over at Palmetto Scoop/ RQA – with its roster of “whites only” candidates (Forest Lake Country Club, anyone?) – sticking up for “Token” like this no doubt assuages their cracker guilt complex.

Seriously, go back to reading your Southern Partisans and STFU already, Hillbillies.

Highly unlikely, but it would be interesting to see Norman jump into the race again. He knows Mulvaney could become heir to the seat if he runs a good campaign.

No more no-bid contracts at the SCGOP makes Walter, Dahleta & Mike sad. Recruiting real business to Starbored is real work. You can’t come in at 10 AM (enjoy a two hour lunch) and leave by 3 PM when there’s real work to do.

Wow, they’re swinging hard here tonight. Everyone around here is getting mad at everyone else, including me.

Those of us who have real jobs have to work in the morning, so you kids who are staying up late try to play nice.

Try to put your real names on some of this drivel while you’re at it. I’m curious to know who is posting, and what middle school some of y’all go to.

Mulvaney and Norman are on the same page. If Mick loses this time around he runs for his Senate seat again in 2012, leaving a likely open (non-Spratt) seat to Norman.

Any candidate that gets away from Starboard does himself a favor. Walter and company are nice people . We never hear anyone say Walter’s anything besides a good guy. But he just can’t hack it when it comes to winning races. Why? He’s not a closer. If we’re talking baseball, Walter’s a pitcher who loses his juice in the bottom of the 8th inning. What makes the situation worse is that he has Dahleta Frye and Mike Green in the bullpen.

I hope someone beats Norman and Spratt. I mean Norman is just after the house seat for financial reasons. I think Mulvaney would be a great candidate.

By now most business are conscious of the federal program E-Verify? It distinguishes US citizens and legal residents from illegal labor. Although not seamless, it has a 99.6 success rate and obviously will overtime become even more constructive to business that believes in the “Rule of Law.” Opponents in both the business sector and even on Capitol Hill have released a torrent of abuse against the application. That includes its function is blind to counterfeit documentation and spurious ID and that even legal individuals can be rejected? SO–YOU GO TO THE SOCIAL SECURITY OFFICE TO BE EXONERATED? ONLY ILLEGAL WORKERS WILL SHUN TURNING TO SSA FOR RESOLVING THIS ISSUE.

The open border conspirators are losing, as they did in a federal Maryland court a week previous. As E-Verify are perfected it needs to become a permanent tool in the incomplete arsenal of immigration enforcement. It needs to reach out to every company, big and small, in our country and every individual who works there? E-Verify eventually will expel foreign national from the workplace, without financial appropriations on a large scale. These people will self-deport when they cannot be hired anymore. Businesses facing huge fines and prison will be the ultimate deterrent. In time it will save our ailing schools, health care, home mortgages and government welfare system. Look to NUMBERSUSA for honest an answer, that includes costs to taxpayers for the new blanket AMNESTY. Which Senators and Republicans are anti-US American Worker and their immigration grades?

For an example Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) has a miserable enforcement grade of “C-”. He was out to erase E-Verify, under fund the border fence from the beginning of the Democratic administration. Then JUDICIAL WATCH is a public watchdog group Promoting Integrity, Transparency and Accountability in Government, Politics and the Law. They uncover misconduct by government officials and litigation to hold to account politicians and public officials who engage in corrupt activities. Finally CAPSWEB informs the public about the coming nightmare of OVERPOPULATION that is already exhibiting itself in our deteriorating infrastructure. TELL YOUR POLITICIANS YOU HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE AT 202-224-3121

SAY NO PRO –ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT LIBERAL SOCIALIST–SANCTUARY CITY–MAYOR GAVIN NEWSOM FOR GOVERNOR OF CALIFORNIA.

Incidentally regarding the 2010 Census? Small states will miss out big time on federal dollars, while mass illegal immigrant states will gain more seats in Congress and too much power and influence? Of course ICE could check the immigration status of those who are counted, even though it’s supposedly against US law? Or is counting 20 million plus (?) non-legal residence against the US Constitution?

You are assuming that all politicans are just out doing this for ego. Fair enough. We all probably have reason to think that. Still, that doesnt mean that it precludes teamwork from time to time.

Norman is the biggest supporter of Mulvaney’s campaign. As Mulvaney was of Norman’s.

Maybe they just both want Spratt gone..along with many others in this district.
