SON OF FMR. GOV. TO CHALLENGE BROWN
The son of former Gov. Carroll Campbell said Wednesday that he is definitely running for Congress.
Carroll “Tumpy” Campbell III made a formal announcement that he would be challenging Congressman Henry Brown in the 1st District Republican primary next June.
“We have career politicians who are more worried about building up their pension plans instead of building up our communities,” Campbell said during a speech in Mt. Pleasant. “We have a President and Congress more interested in appeasing their liberal constituency – as opposed to working for real health care reform, accessible coverage, and lower costs.
“I am going to stand up and fight for those who feel like they don’t have a voice in Washington.”
Campbell told The Hill in March that he would run against Brown, but said he has only been testing the waters since then.
In April, Campbell reported raising $21,650 in only two weeks.
Campbell also made stops in Georgetown and Myrtle Beach. He said he would visit Summerville and Goose Creek on Thursday.
