PIERCE BUSTED FOR DUI, SENT TO JAIL FOR 4TH TIME IN 2 YEARS
The disgraced mayor of Atlantic Beach has once again landed herself in jail, this time in connection with a DUI charge.
The Myrtle Beach Sun News reported that Retha Pierce spent a night in a Marion County Jail after she was stopped around 3:50 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. 501.
She was released on a personal recognizance bond at 9 a.m. Thursday, the paper reported. She is scheduled to have a hearing on Oct. 6.
If this all sounds really, really familiar to you, then you win a to-be-determined prize. In fact, I’m just going to go ahead and copy/paste what I wrote in April when she was arrested for hit and run and update it a little.
This is not the first time the mayor of Atlantic Beach has been arrested. In fact, it’s the fourth fifth time in the last year and a half two years that Pierce or her predecessor have landed themselves in jail.
To recap, last March, Mayor Irene Armstrong was indicted on bribery charges.
Armstrong then lost an election to Pierce by 13 votes out of 85 cast. That election, of course, took three tries over the course of 14 months to complete.
Only nine days after the first round of voting in that election, on Nov. 15, Pierce was arrested for reckless driving and failing to properly signal.
Then, less than a month into her term, Pierce was arrested for disorderly conduct after she went on a tirade at City Hall because the town wouldn’t give her an office.
Now tack on the hit and run and DUI charges.
Anyway, I give Pierce a lot of credit… she made it a whole five months without being put in handcuffs. That’s pretty impressive and will surely be enough to land her a second term.
