TWO GOP CONGRESSMEN FROM SC TURN BACK ON REPUBLICAN COLLEAGUE
When Rep. Joe Wilson needed his Republican colleagues from South Carolina the most, one was actively working against him and one was nowhere to be found.
Rep. Bob Inglis, who represents the very conservative fourth district, sided with leftist Democrats Tuesday and voted in favor of a resolution that rebuked Wilson for yelling “you lie” at President Barack Obama during a joint session of Congress last week.
Inglis, one of only seven Republicans to vote against Wilson, defended his action prior to the vote.
“Joe Wilson apologized to President,” Inglis wrote on the microblogging service Twitter. “He should apologize to House for rule violation. That would end the matter.”
For good measure, Inglis added an analogy. “I speed, lose control of my car and hit your car. I fix your car. I pay my speeding ticket. Case closed.”
Meanwhile, Rep. Gresham Barrett was too busy campaigning for governor in South Carolina to defend hid friend Wilson. Barrett was working the cocktail circuit in Columbia and recorded a no vote on the resolution, which passed 240-179.
Interestingly, Barrett released a web video Tuesday calling on Democrats to “back off Wilson.” As usual, though, Barrett’s words speak much louder than his actions.
Wilson and fellow Republican Congressman Henry Brown both voted against the resolution, while Democrat Reps. James Clyburn and John Spratt voted for it.

Inglis is an idiot, Barrett a coward.
nuff said…they represent the GOP!
PS..Barrett better keep his jo in DC…he ain’t got a chance in hell of being Gov.
Mr Inglis does NOT get it !!! This is politics !!! The left and Democrats in Congress booed Bush on National TV…I see this as the same !!!….with no apology what-so-ever..and none demanded by anyone !!! And… Mr Barret…you will not get my vote..unless you stand with Mr Wilson.

Why doesn’t Inglis and Barrett raise as much fuss about Obama and his bunch of radicals,I haven’t heard from them
Im so tired of these 2 assclowns
Joe Wilson is a hero an should be commended. inglis & barrett should be given an early retirement by voters
I think our politicians have lost everything that our constitution is.
I think that Wilson apoligized to the president and he accepted and there is no reason to apoligize to the whole congress.
I will not forget what our Congressmen and Senators have let us down in the Stae of South Carolina and the United States as a whole when election time comes around.
I think both of these people are Idiots.
I hope people of the fourth district are proud of their philosophically confused representative. Isn’t this the same guy who praised Obama’s health care plan at a recent townhall?

Living in SC for years, I’m absolutely ashamed of both Inglis and Barrett! Appology was accepted by the president, and he’s also said he shouldn’t have said it on air. This is nothing but something to detract attention from all the scandals with ACORN and this administation.
Shame on you both for not being there for your friend! You’ll not be getting my votes
I think that it’s very sad the way our congressmen and senators have turned their backs on the citizens of our state and our nation.
And it’s really sad when conservative congressman showed no support for fella congressman who only said what everyone around him was thinking.
He said he was sorry that it happened and he apologize for it, the president accepted his apology, that should’ve been the end of it.
These things we’ll remain on my mind when the next election rolls around.
Doesn’t surprise me at all about Inglis. He’s been out of it for some time. I truely hope his days are numbered. He’s rude to us whenever we meet. Self righteous SOB
Barrett will never get my vote either.
Thank you, Henry Brown! We can count on our “Workhorse” in the 1st District!!!
nah this isn’t about politics, as Clyburn, JOKE that he is, said today…it’s about “the conduct of the members of this August body…” well, I believe that…That is why:
1)Charlie Rangel is being censured for his withholding of income subject to taxation….no….wait…he’s not.
2)Chris Dodd is being censured for his sweetheart deal with Countrywide…no….wait…he’s not.
3)Barney Frank was censured for running a male prostitution ring from the basement of his townhouse….no…wait…THAT never happened either…
4)Timothy Geithner lost his position within this administration…due to tax evasion…no…..not gonna happen either…
No, no partisan politics here…nuh- uh..riiiiiiiiiight.
And in the meantime, Nancy Pelosi wants to criminalize the behavior of our CIA operatives! This is insanity on its face. And INGLIS and BARRETT are cowards. Nikki Haley for Governor.
Ingliss and Barret are poltical cowards. They obiously have no principles. I don’t see any reason why they sided with the democrats except to curry favor. Election is coming and I’m one who won’t forget treachery.
I hope this backfires on both of the cowards, bowing down to the radical left…neither deserve to be in office representing SC. Enough is enough and I’m sick of the pc in Washington, DC. All of the 545 people in Washington need to be fired and replaced. As Charley Reese, a journalist, put it, “One hundred Senators, 435 Congressmen, one President, and nine Supreme Court justices — 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.”
I am from South Carolina where the Civil War was given birth and the Confederate flag still rest on our Statehouse. I am Black and many of my ancestor fought with the Confederacy. So I accept that flag as part of my history. But I really thought all of this had passed until the Civil Rights Act was passed. I saw friends who had been diehard Dems re-establish a party that had been a bane of hatred to the White southerners. And the only reason why was to get away from the Blacks. Now they have a problem. They ran from the Democrat party when the Civil Rights Act was passed and now they have nowhere to run. Will they leave the country or will they grow up and start acting like Americans, one nation under God?
I don’t think it was an unthinkable request that he apologize to the House for the rules violation. He took the high ground with a prompt apology to the President, he should have done the same with the House. The “rebuke” is just politics, but Rep. Wilson knows his behavior was inappropriate, and he is man enough to take his lumps. Now that he has, they should leave it (and him) alone.
Go ahead and resign from Congress, Mr. Wilson! Instead, we could use your passion and determination for what is right … in the Governor’s Office!! I will never vote for Barrett or Bauer for governor!

1.5 Million Anti-Reform Rallyers Can’t Be Wrong

I will admit to being incredibly impressed by the massive 1.5 million people who turned out for the anti-reform rally in Washington on Saturday. That’s a tremendous crowd by any standards. Kudos.
Okay, I know they said that ABC reported 1.5 million people, and that ABC has said they did no such thing and only reported 60,000-70,000. Hey, this kind of confusion can happen between big organizations. They were only off by 1.44 million, out of a possible 1.5 million. Who are you going to believe about what was reported? The people who organized the actual event, or those who merely did the reporting? And ABC might even be high by 30,000, so how can you believe them, period?!
So, me, I’m going with the organizers. After all, they had a picture to back up their claim. And a picture not only doesn’t lie, but it’s is worth a thousand words. Or, in this case, 1.44 million of them.
http://images.huffingtonpost.com/2009-09-15-TeaParty.jpg
Okay, okay, I know that there is no Museum of the American Indian in this picture , even though it was built five years ago. But Dick Cheney’s office, doesn’t appear on Google Streets either. Some things are simply meant not to exist in photographs. (Like Barack Obama’s birth certificate!) And okay, I know the cranes that can be seen in front of the Natural History Museum haven’t actually been there for a decade. But you want to quibble about fake birds, you’re missing the big picture. Literally.
So, count me on the side of the rally organizers, FreedomWorks, the grassroots national organizing grassroots lobbying firm run by former grassroots Republican Majority Leader Dick Armey. And the grassroots Fox News.
And I believe them because I know for a fact this past weekend was a really good one for getting crowds together. It was after Labor Day, which is a great time for gathering with close friends. I know. I had a barbecue myself on Sunday, and the whole neighborhood showed up. And I have a photo to back me up.
http://images.huffingtonpost.com/2009-09-15-NYmarathon.jpg
Honestly, I know the problems FreedomWorks and Fox are going through, trying to get people to believe their claims. People are jealous, and it’s a bitter pill to swallow.
It’s just like on my birthday, for example. I was so pleased by how many showed up in my back yard to celebrate. But my cousin David, who’s a real snark, thinks more people like him than me. So, he spread false rumors that only six people were there, counting caterers. But pictures don’t lie!
Despite naysayers insisting otherwise, the truth is that the crowd was so huge and got so rowdy that the police had to come. And even they needed to call in the National Guard. Barricades were set up, Riot gear was worn. Tear gas was readied.
This is why I’m bothered by those who don’t believe the word of FreedomWorks or Fox. Just watch their grassroots rallies. You can see all the signs and hear all the chants that claim, “Liar, liar, pants of on fire.” People like that are against lying. They think it’s wrong. They understand the truth. They understand that by stringing letters together like Glenn Beck you can prove Barack Obama wants an oligarchy, even if you spell it “oligargh,” and that is all the truth you need. Think and make it so.
That’s what I believe, and that’s what the club of Americaners I belong to believes. It’s a massive organization. When we had our national convention of four-million strong, it wasn’t just a tea party… we had crumpets, too. And finger sandwiches. The enthusiasm, the huge crowds, the balloons, confetti and celebration were so overwhelming you couldn’t believe it.
Yes, I know there’s a quote that goes, “If you have the law on your side, argue the law. If you have the facts on your side, argue the facts. And if don’t have either the law or the facts on your side, then pound on the table and shout.” And I know that some people have suggested that all the empty tea parties, all the cries of birthers, all the shouting of deathers, all the signs with hate-filled slogans, all the gun-tote swaggering, all the shouting at town hall meetings and in Congress to keep others from talking, all the vapid yelling about lies, all the sending out photographs of what non-believers and fact-checkers call fake mass rallies, I know that some have suggested these all are nothing more than just the actions of fringe losers so unable to face reality that the only thing they can do is pound on the table and howl in the air. And lie.
Well, I don’t believe this. I don’t believe that the only thing these people can do is pound on the table and howl in the air. And lie. I believe they can do more. After all, if anyone can say they’ve put together a rally of 1.5 million people, when reality shows it’s between a mere 30,000-70,000, then those are people worthy of believing in. They can do almost anything. Literally, almost anything.
And that’s why I believe their photographs. And my local club of Americaners are hopping on our bus to join them in full support!
That excuse by Inglis is just stupid. I lose control of my car and hit your’s, I fix your car, pay my fine and apologize to you, I don’t apologize to the people who sold him the car or the people who live on the street where the wreck happened. Inglis is a big dissapointment for the people of this area and we will be better off when he is gone.
The bombardment of American fists at the doors of Congress must be heard, to make E-Verify a permanent illegal immigrant enforcement tool? It’s incredulous that we are winning small wars against our lawmakers beneficiaries–the special interest lobby. LEGISLATORS ARE FINALLY HEARING OUR ANGRY VOICES. Rep. Joe Wilson C-SC opened the eyes of millions of Americans, who are been left unaware of the cloaked–AMNESTY–committees that is going to rip the fabric of every voters life apart. I do not condone Rep.Joe Wilson (R-SC) outburst in the full Congress. But Rep. Wilson was–CORRECT! Unless there is some efficient mechanism to identify illegal immigrants applying for the government health care, such as revised E-Verify? They cannot be detected and delivered to ICE. Just indicating illegal immigrants wasn’t qualified in the wording is a waste of time, just like the billions spent on these people annually There’s also language in the senate bill that states that if one family member is an American citizen (anchor baby) then the entire household will be eligible for coverage. Any detail in the national media has been subdues or intentionally omitted, as with the crowds of Tea Party opponents. Sen. Harry Reid could be stretching his neck out for the headsman in his re-election campaign, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. They both have used their political influence in trying to overturn E-Verify. Pro-Illegal alien lawmakers could table it, under the “Sunset Provision” on September 30?
President Obama’s direction towards an unmentionable path to citizenship for all those who broke our law is abhorrent. After the controversial eruption in the Session of Congress, they surely must be aware that imposing immigration reform on the people could break them? Americans taxpayers are already supporting business welfare? Corporate entities want these destitute people here to exploit, but don’t want to pay for their health care, schooling or towards the massive numbers surviving in prison. They leave that to the fading middle class taxpayers who carry the tax burden? Over a decade has passed since illegal people started coming here in droves and with little or no laws, to blockade their arrival we are now talking over 20 million. Nor does it stop there? Owing to the clarion call of Amnesty ringing out in the slums and ghetto’s of foreign criminals, sick, elderly and those without means, from all over the world will descend on us. IT MEANS OVERPOPULATION?
Bad as it may be now, who is going to subsidize the new arrivals? Not the business cartels that’s for sure? Once again taxpayers will be heavily taxed to pay for the new shipment of poor, uneducated from every region. How can we expect to have any government public option for our own people, when our gates remain wide open for “Anchor Babies” and the illegal millions expecting a free handout? A nurse in a Nevada hospital indicated they have a row of beds of illegal immigrants on dialysis, which was costing weekly $18.000 dollars for each treatment. Tell me who pays for that? The US government pays a small portion; the rest is acquired from the hospital or taxpayer.
I want a single payer system for homeless veterans, seniors, single mothers with children and poor American families. But I refuse to pay for everybody who climbs, crawls under the fence or bluffs the Federal officer at shipping ports and airports of entry. It’s not our responsibility. DON’T WAIT! PESTER YOUR SENATOR OR REPRESENTATIVE TODAY AT 202-224-3121? Find true facts by GOOGLING NUMBERSUSA, JUDICIAL WATCH & IMMIGRATION COUNTERS
Ck out Inglis’ web site and find the bills he has sponsored, ck out the late night puny and just for web site statement on the healthcare plan. At least Barrett is pure politician and we know where he is coming from and can combat his phony bandwagon/wind blown approach to politics and his intrusion into the idea of conservatism. Inglis on the other hand is just there because he is lazy and likes the elite status and perks of a US Congressman. He talks smart, is combative to lesser debators and does nothing to promote the welfare of the people of SC. or this nation. He is conservative because his district is. He will be hard to dislodge come 2010. These two have to be sent home or we have the change BO has called for and you can see we don’t like it.
[...] Bob Inglis (R, SC-4)Unfortunately, Adam Fogle over at the Palmetto Scoop beat me on the scoop in the 4th Congressional District. I guess that is one of the disadvantages [...]
Inglis’ arms are still all twisted up from reaching across the aisle. He’s going to be looking for a job after next year – I am in his district and am president of my precint . . . I KNOW what people are saying and feeling about this turncoat. Wilson stated the truth, though the forum was not the right place. But he DID give voice to the face that Obama was lying. Because HE WAS!!!!!
Gotta say, seems like Inglis puts thought into his votes, rather than playing party politics. I’m proud to have him represent me. Will Inglis win at politics? Nope. Is doing the job we voted him in for? Yep. Don’t like it? Don’t vote for him next time. It’s not like he has a huge political machine behind him.
I wish more politicians would vote their conscience rather than their party line or their personal agenda.
Keep it up, Bob. Thanks for the service!
I remember reading about a Democrat who accused Bush of being a liar. Why was he never punished? These Republican guys who have decided not to side with Wilson-who by the way spoke the truth about Obama lieing to America- need to be told they just decided to not be re elected. Their decision-our action. Someone inform Helen McKee that to lie to America on an issue such as this health reform (among many Obama has slanted) may be something to consider for -I don’t know-impeachment maybe-and does not warrant an apology for being called out. Is the oath Obama took still valid? If he told the truth Mr. Wilson should apologize. By your statement you must think the President is telling the truth, and that Mr. Wilson was mistaken. Is that what you think-that the truth was coming from the lips of the President? I wish 500 other congressional members would find the same courage as Wilson has shown he has. Obama is on tract to ruin the country, and has only one weapon-print money and spend it as fast as it can done.
I AM POUR O JOE WILSON FOR STANDING ON HI PRINCIPLES AND CALING OBAMA A LIAR. HE HAS LIED ABOUT EVERY THING HE SPEWED OUT OF HIS MOUTH WHILE CAMPAIGNING AND IS STILL SPEWING NOTHING BUT HOT AIR,HOW ABOUT ACRON HIS MAIN BUDDIES AND I COULD GO ON ALL NIGHT BUT I WILL CLOSE BY SAYING I WILL NEVER VOTE FOR BOB INGLIS OR BARRETT EVER.I THINK YOU TWO TURNCOATS JUST SPLIT YOUR BRITCHES WITH SOUTH CAROLINA.PITY TO BE A COWARD.
Let me get this straight. The Bambi rule is now in effect for the Republicans…
“If you can’t say something nice don’t say anything at all.”
Yet when the Dems booed, hissed and called GW a liar and a traitor no action was taken.
When 90% of the Dems said the war in Iraq was lost and they were wrong… No action was taken.
When candidate Obama spoke against our country and President on foreign soil no action was taken.
When Nancy Pelosi called the CIA a bunch of liars no action was taken.
When ACORN (the group that helped Obama secure the White House) is found with employees that support child prositution no action is taken.
Yet when our fine Representative from South Carolina decides to use English to express his displeasure with Presidential positions instead of the more acceptable hissing and booing.
Come on people wake up and take our country back from these scoundrels… before it is too late.
Glad to see our legislators are so even handed in how they deal with these things… Can’t wait to deal with this “honorable” crowd instead of my “honorable insurance company.” I better start eating healthier because I’m a Republican. I’m thinking if a registered Democrat needs a kidney and I need one I’ll be last in line with this crowd. The hypocrisy is ludicrous.
We are in the fourth district, and we are very disappointed in Bob Inglis. We plan to send a contribution to Joe Wilson. Joe apologized, and that is enough.
I am from SC and I do VOTE. From what I have seen from these 2 Barrett and Inglis I would NOT be voting for either. I was at a local convention where barrett did not even show up, he just sent a note along and asked a friend to read it.. NOT a way to get my attention nor show your desire to become Teh Next Governor! I wish that I was in Wilsons’ Congressional District so I could give him my vote! Because the guy in My 6th Congressional District has LOST my vote With his disgusting display of sucking up!
Thank heaven for real patriots like Bob Inglis, who “gets it”. Joe Wilson was rebuffed for showing disrespect for the branch of government her represents, not specifically for saying the words “You lie” to the President.
Inglis understands that with any public office one holds, and particularly one that he has been elected to, a certain decorum is required. REAL SC citizens, who actually vote, understand the art of civility. The fringe groups do not -either understand OR vote.
We can certainly pick them! where did we ever get this pack of clowns?
Came out of the over-crowded state hospital, I guess.
I am proud of Joe Wilson for having the guts to call our Socialist President lier, for that is what he is. He stood and lied fo almost an hour last Wednesday Night’s Lie-fest. Joe had the intesinal fortitude to call him what he is. After all, if he walks like a lier, talks like a lier and acts like a communist he is a lier!!!
Bob Inglis and Graham Barrett should be ashamed of theselves, I believe they both have cooked their political gooses.
Inglis is a known Republicrat and along with Barrett should looking for a job right now!
This is not the first time that Inglis has not been there to support his party and it won’t be the last. He is too busy swinging back and forth and trying to kiss the fannies of the dem’s if he thinks they are going to do something for him! I would say that these people do not value their elected positions very much, because of the way that they behave, but I think that they know something that we don’t. They act as they wish and we can’t seem to get them out. We are going to HAVE to stand together and GET INVOLVED this next election and prove to them that we mean business!!
On another note, former President Jimmy Carter has just opened a can of worms that will make mattersREALLY difficult for everybody now! He went on television and said that he thought that the comments of Rep. Wilson, as well as the treatment of Pres. Obama by the people, is coming strictly from racism!! He didn’t recognize the fact that the majority of people that voted for Obama were ‘white’, it is being said because SC, as he states is known for being racist anyway! WHAT!? I can NOT belive that he said something SO STUPID!The entire time that Pres. Bush was in office the Democrats bashed him publiclly, calling him ignorant,”Hitler” and being as disrespectful as possible, but one TRUTHFUL comment is made and it was done because not only is the man that made the comment racist but his entire state!! This has gone TOO FAR! And if something isn’t done soon, it is going to get MUCH worse. We have GOT to start calling AND writing everybody! State & Federal administration, the RNC, the DNC, we have to let our elected officials know that we will no longer allow them to stay in office if they treat us so badly and do not represent us in the way in which they promised.
GET INVOLVED! Give them a piece of your mind people and start with INGLIS!!
Guess what? It’s official. Inglis has a backbone and will not give in to party’s pressure. You know, maybe he does look at both sides of a situation before responding, unlike Wilson who only saw what he wanted to see in the health bill. But then we really don’t know if he read the bill or listened to his old boy network. The sad part about most of the responses we see is that you have to wonder if anyone is reading in South Carolina.
The worst Recession in thirty years is fading. President Obama came into office with a load that no other president in our history had to face. As usual, he attacked it with the gusto that he used in getting his education. Now we can see the light in the tunnel. So I say all of you nay sayer, “Get a real life. Do something good for our country and state. And please stop repeating the lies that have been circulated since President Obama took office. So far, everything he has done has been an improvement over where we were the last eight years. Ask yourself why you will not give him credit. Could the answer be that we live in South Carolina where the Civil War began and where the Confederate flag still lingers on the state house ground? Will we ever catch up with the rest of the world?
Obama lied! Inglis is an more-on! (phonetics for those who do not get it). I am not going to apoligize for those statements. If the ‘DIM-ocrats fanatics can hiss, boo and call a Republican President a liar, but when a Republican speaks the truth, he gets blasted.
FACT: Wison is a IDIOT. I’ve known Joe for over 40 years. I live in his district.
Like the few have said, Joe just had one too many drinks before going to the speech.
Needs AA or prozac.
um Betty, what did Obama really fix? The market is where it should have been all along. Remove the madoff, Countrywide and other financial inflated stocks, overburdened mortages to people who should have never qualifiedm and we are where we should be. Where did it all come from. Try Democratic programs to get people into houses at all costs. Try Democrats for failing to put regulations because of the Barney Franks moron. Many of these were direct results of the Clinton era. You remember him, the man who spent more time in the ‘ORAL’ office than in running the country. The only thing this administration has done is rais e the national debt to unheard of areas. Now Obama makes a statement that he will not sign a bill that will add to the deficit. If this is true, then why is he pushing a Health care bill that will need money from the government to pay for it. Thus another new program = new spendig = more deficit spending. Get real. Madison and the other framers of our Constitution are flipping over in their graves at the growing central government they warned the country about.
Are you about Conservative values or just politics. I think the country is sick and tired of just politics. It’s about time for some conservative values. They are missing in both parties.
As Minority Leader Boehner said, the Democrats will rue the day they started this process of voting on resolutions to admonish members for poor behavior. Now, when one of their members tells a lie, or does something else that exhibits poor behavior, I hope our Party will create a resolution to be debated in The House. I would start with Nancy Pelosi’s lie about the CIA. This was a “political stunt” as Mr. Boehner also pointed out. I loved the way it made their Leader bristle. The truth hurts. Joe Wilson made the whole country aware of an important fact about the illegals getting coverage. Now, it is being addressed and not glossed over. Way to go Congressman Wilson.
Wilson was an embarrassment to the state of South Carolina. Regardless of your views, there is a standard that should be followed by all of us. Civility and respect are things that we should require of our congressmen. I’m tired of ALL of the politics, we need Americans, not Democrats and Republicans. Fire the whole lot and let’s start over with people who love America and will work together. United We Stand, Divided We Fall
I am totally ashamed of the whole bunch who are supposed to represent us..they do not represent me, period. I can do without this bunch of whore mongers, cowards and shall I say “Alternative Life Style” politicians. If they represent South Carolina I am moving. At least have the backbone to support your constituents who have the nerve to call a liar a liar.
Check Barrett’s voting record and you’ll find he’s been absent for many votes in Congress. This guy could be called Mr. M.I.A., and he wants to be governor. Inglis’ career needs to end next year and I hope the voters of his district are paying attention. Siding with the likes of Pelosi, Clyburn and others by someone who is supposed to still possess traditional values in inexcusable. And, voting to punish a fellow republican who told the truth no less!!
Joe Wilson insulted the President and the institution to where he was (somehow) elected. This was not a tempered act. Do you really want someone representing you who is so out of control, let alone ill-mannered? Joe Wilson and unforunately, many SC legislators like him are a huge part of our state’s problem.
People in SC need to take an objective look the stats pertaining to this state. 40% high school drop-out rate, one third of the state living below the poverty line, almost last in SAT scores, and on and on. It is a train wreck for most except those who “have,” and they could care less about the “have-nots.” Mis-understood Christian values/conservatism and raging anti-intellectualism has left SC a backwater burgh and laughing stock for the rest of the nation. God is love—unconditional. Care about your neighbor who has no health care and realize you could lose yours soon. George Bush and the self-centered Republican agenda cared nothing for the common man. Obama cares about trying to help the general populace-yes you-most of you middle to lower class South Carolinians. Get past your hate and start “caring how they do it up North”–or anywhere else. It’s a big world out there. Time to catch-up. Joe Wilson included.
Mr Inglis is a pure and SIMPLE idiot. His analogy doesnt even fit what he was trying to say to cover his ass. If you speed to pay the fine. well Joe Wilson paid the fine , he called the President and apologized. I hope the conservatives in the 4th District find a new Republican representative to replace this back stabber !!! As far as Mr Barrett goes he might as well give up running for Governor now because I wont vote for him and I will pass the word to all that I can . And word travels fast, especially in this computer age. I wish Joe Wilson had said “Its a lie “instead of “You lie”. But the truth is the truth and we have not heard very much of that coming from the Executive office since January. Everything has been rush rush rush to get things passed so that people dont have time to think or evaluate what the outcome will be. Most wont even know it happened because they prefer to keep their heads in the sand and take whats shoved down their throats. Just wait until the tax law amendments start rolling in and who gets to pay for all this stuff that the Democratic Congress is passing on a daily basis. Joe Wilson is a true patriot. It sure open some eyes up and started representatives looking closely at this Health Care Bill. even the democrats are looking at some of this stuff seriously. Also, I guess it didnt count when the Democrats in Congress boooed President Bush. I guess they dont think their actions were questionable. Just like everything else if you say something about or question the authority of a black person you are racist and everyone is afraid to get that label so they buckle under . Jimmy Carter is another sad excuse for a human. His tour of duty as President was a disaster. I chalk his remarks up to dementia !
JETHRO,
I feel sorry for you and all who have this “rose colored glasses” idealogy of what things should be like. Joe wilson was standing up for what was found to be the truth. The democrats are going to bleed you dry unless you are one of the people who would rather stand around and wait for handouts from the people who actually work for a living. The only people actually making a stink about this whole incident are the people that refuse to work and those that refuse to actually research what is actually happening in Washington. Because if you knew what was going on you would keep your mouth shut !!!
Couldn’t you tell – Inglis is a lawyer and will follow his buddies in the house. He has no loyalty about him. He has shown that time and time again. I bet if the tables had been turned, Joe Wilson would have stood beside Inglis (who does not deserve it)
There is plenty of time for Barrett to campaign. The time is now for him to be doing his job in Washington. That was what he was hired for. He doesn’t need the time off to campaign right now. He is doing more harm to himself and the Republicans by not doing his current job. Get yourself back to Washington and do the job you promised to do when you asked the Third District to elect you. As far as the dumb demos go, what else would you expect. They have been bad for South Carolina for years and will continue unless good people rise up and get rid of them. They have no courage to stand up for what is right.
Joe Wilson was so right in saying – one apology was enough. In my opinion one was too many. If the shoe fits.
Americans are the most generous and compassionate people in the world. Our healthcare system, with all of its flaws, has produced more advancement in life-saving medicines and techniques than any other. I am tired of hearing about how BAD America is. TIRED of it!
As to the “Christian values” thing: Christian values appeal to the INDIVIDUAL. Let me keep my money and I can be as charitable as I want to be. (Look to Joe Biden’s pathetic tax return for an example of Christian charity – or President Obama’s treatment of his Kenyan relatives for an example of being his brother’s keeper). GOVERNMENT is not supposed to assume my personal responsibility to care for myself OR for my neighbor. In a DEMOCRACY, I can give government some of that power, but it is MINE TO GIVE not THEIR’S TO TAKE.
As far as the state of SC schools, it is proof that throwing money at an issue is not the answer. You can make education FREE, provide FREE TRANSPORTATION, FREE TUTORING, Even FREE or REDUCED BREAKFAST and LUNCH, and there will still be those who will choose NOT to better themselves. Money won’t change that. Holding people responsible for their own choices and actions needs to start happening in this country.
I don’t want to be like a bird in the nest with mouth open wide, waiting for Mother to drop the worms in. To survive, the birds have to learn to use their OWN wings to fly and find their OWN worms.
If you think that President Obama was being truthful when he said that Illegal Aliens will not be recieving medical benefits, I ask you: Under the “Obama plan” what happens to the illegal alien who shows up at your local hospital without money or insurance? Right NOW they get care, the cost of which is absorbed by those who have insurance or can pay for care. Will they be BOOTED OUT into the street by Obama’s plan? If they receive care, who will pay if not the American people? If this is true, then Illegal aliens will receive benefits, will they not?
Our current system is not perfect, but it does not have to be fundamentally SCRAPPED and REBUILT. I think that President Obama is offering a false choice: His plan or the status quo. There are many points in between – and with something this important at stake (literally life and death for some), we don’t need to RUSH INTO anything.
By the way, Those who disagree with you are not necessarily motivated by hate, and by making such an accusation, you make your own arguments questionable. I live in South Carolina, and believe that Joe Wilson should have maintained his decorum during the President’s address, but I cannot use this ONE INCIDENT to paint Joe Wilson as a racist or a hater, and I don’t think that those who have done so are being fair.
Inglis should be hung out to dry November 2010. I will contribute to his competitor in the GOP primary. Barrett lost my vote for being too busy politicking to defend a solid member of Congress like Joe Wilson.
What did President Obama do during his first eight months in office? Stop the Runaway Train that was created by President Bush and his Republican henchmen.
Check it Out:
The Troubled Asset Relief Program
· TARP — $700 billion bailout for the nation’s financial institutions instituted during Bush’s last days. Only used 80 billion before the guidelines were set by President Obama. Response: Once guidelines were set, out of the 80 billion that was given, 70 billion has been paid back with a profit of $4 billion. (I guess they didn’t like the salary cap issued by President Obama.
· Begin his rebuild America campaign. Was able to save thousands of job and put people back to work and stop the RECESSION that begin under then President Bush.
Response: The RECESSION has ended and we can see the light in the tunnel. (Not bad at all.)
· TALF program which spurred lending for autos – 2.88 billion, credit cards, education, home mortgages – 75 billion, and other consumers loans- Out of the 200 billion earmarked only 85 billion has been used (Wonder why?) Response: Gave the economy the boost it needed to stop the RECESSION. “Clunkers for Cash worked.”
To understand the true picture you will have to look at what he inherited and what Bush inherited when they took office: I borrowed a chart from the this website: Check out the national debt chart. It covers what every president has done since being in office. http://gvdc.googlegroups.com/web/Natl_Debt_Chart.jpg?gda=7XzZHkUAAAC8Pk_GnGps-09DGs3rXexQtd3ApuAt_rOY1oiq86FzjTv04YtL14J-o1n7HJVRnUdzlqnWZQD3y6jZqCMfSFQ6Gu1iLHeqhw4ZZRj3RjJ_-A
Where was the Tea Party Express the last eight years when Bush was burying us in a 661 billion national debt? The sad part is that when he came into office the national debt was 18 billion. Do I need to state anymore?
Is there anything that Republicans will not lie about? It seems like the Tea Party Express went from 1.5 million to maybe forty thousands. What’s up? Oh yeah, do you really have proof that Joe Wilson was correct in what he said? If I remember correctly, it seems like Obama was telling what he wanted in the healthcare bill not what was in the bill since you had so many different bills running around Washington.
I think it’s time to let go of all of this. I do not believe that Wilson’s comment was racist. Geez…is that a stretch. He made his apology to the President, and that is all that is needed. They need to drop this issue and move on to more important things like regulating the banking industry (bonuses are still flying!!)…and that’s before they target health care.
How come no one talks about the TRILLION DOLLAR DEFICIT?
BETTY DANIELS,
Cash for clunkers was a joke !! The dealers are still waiting for their money. Only car manufatures from overseas really benefitted from it. Sending our money out of the country. I bet u own a Toyota or like vehicle. The Govt changed the EPA ratings of cars in mid stream making many inelgible for the program and or if the dealers honored the program before the new EPA figures they had to pay the 4500. themselves. ,etc etc etc. A real great program, talk to the struggling car dealers about how great it was. they’ll probablly run you out of the dealership.
The 40 thousand people figure came fronm ABC another lackie of the democrat party that try and squash the truth. After Joe Wilson’s outcry even the Democratic Congressmen started taking a closer look at the Health Care Bill and expressing their doubts.
How can you say that since our money has been leaving the country for the last eight years. Why do you think we crash? America is in debt up to her eyeball. But that’s okay, it happened under Bush. Face the facts boys, we wouldn’t be in shape we are in if the truth had been told from the beginning. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Do you really think God gonna let us get away with lying? Where do you think the money came from to support this war. We borrowed. We borrowed. We went from 18 billion to 661 billion. Yeah, President Obama might send it to a trillion but what do you expect. You gonna have to pay the piper sometimes. Now we pay. We have been riding on fumes for a long time – 8 years.
BETTY DANIELS
You have been fed so much garbage on the liberal blogs. The economy is not improving. If it were the roles of unemployed would be significanly going down. Also, all other indicators and still showing a troubled economy. It is good that you will have your own beliefs, but look at the facts, not what the Obama socialists want you to believe. Once you capitulate to their wishes you will be saying – what happened to the America I love. Re: Health Care – no one goes with out health care, eye care or dental care. There are free clinics all over the upstate and the drug companies donate the medicines needed for them, doctors donate their time and no one pays. There are local dentists that give their time each month to in particular take care of children’s teeth FOR FREE. There are eye doctors that work with Lions club and no one goes with out eye wear if they contact them. There are so many more charitable institutions that take care of the sick and needy. The only reason Obama wants this health care is so that he can control our lives already more than they are and eventually have himself installed as leader for life. He wants to be the twin to Hugo Chavez, Mao Tse Tung, Karl Marx and all the others that want to control every aspect of a person’s life. Thank God we still have a free America, but if we keep electing kool aid drinkers to Congress we will be just like those countries – NOT FREE!
If I had not had that picture of the Promise Keeper March on my computer, I would probably believe you. The picture was fake. The numbers given was fake. The Tea Party Express is RACIST. Stop hiding behind falsehoods. Face the facts. America will recover and be stronger for it. The rich will not make as much interest as they have been. And we will see our portfolio grow again like it did under Clinton. That’s my prayer.
OMG! I can’t believe you still believe that rot that Clinton improved the economy. He rode the coattails of what President Reagan did for America. By 1998 Clinton ran the country into a recession which President Bush inherited. You are one liberal that will never see the truth. So go ahead and believe the blogs that you read and you will always have your head in the sand. That’s fine. Further, you have not seen figures on the Tea Party of 9/12 just like no figures on the inaguration of 1/20. Liberals claimed 1.5 milliion but when the grid count was done it was more like 400,000. The Tea Party Grid is greater than that one. The 1 to 1.5 milliion is accurate. Keep drinking the kool aid. You know what happens to kool aid drinkers.
Ruth, I really feel your pain. It must be hard to know that people you had faith are hyprocrites. The people you mention are wonderful people who gives of their time to help others, so do I. I really do not need you to ring my bell or those of my friends. All I need from you is to tell the truth. Unemployment hit my little smalll town in 2005. We have been hurting ever since. We know what it is not to have health insurance. We know how it feels to have a mortgage payment. What we don’t understand is how our country could let big companies ride the back of the middle class for 8 years and not say anything. Did you really think things were improving? If you had stocks, did you pay any attention to your portfolio. The sad part is, these are the people you are trying to protect. They didn’t care about you when they kept raising the interest on your credit card and other bills. They didn’t think about you when they had you paying four times more than a house was worth. And they sure don’t care when they tells you no to some treatment the doctor want you to have. Do you really think they are pouring money to stop this bill for your sake. I have a friend who has used up all of her insurance and no one else wants to carry her. Oh yeah, she paid her premiums. The insurance companies have had a death squad for years, it’s called “We do not Cover that
Ruth, I only deals with fact. You can check it out for yourself. Please don’t take my word for it. Check it out. http://gvdc.googlegroups.com/web/Natl_Debt_Chart.jpg?gda=7XzZHkUAAAC8Pk_GnGps-09DGs3rXexQtd3ApuAt_rOY1oiq86FzjTv04YtL14J-o1n7HJVRnUdzlqnWZQD3y6jZqCMfSFQ6Gu1iLHeqhw4ZZRj3RjJ_-A
Looks like Wilson and his opponent aren’t the only ones reaping the rewards of this.
http://palmstatepolitics.blogspot.com/2009/09/joe-wilson-rebuked-supporting.html
Wilson not only owes his Congressional colleagues an apology but he owes me and the rest of the intelligent, refined and civil residents of the State of South Carolina not only an apology but his resignation as our representative in Congress. He is certainly NOT representative of the graceful people here.
I don’t have any pain. I know what is what and I do not need to go to your websites that say what you want to read. You believe what you want and I will believe what I want. That is what America is all about and not one under a person like
Barack Obama. He does not honor the Constitution, he acts like he is better than anyone and while we are at it – you say that you have such a depressed economy – why don’t you speak up about the $4.4 million dollars Obama has spent since the Tuesday he spoke to schools on running away from Washinton. He has made 51 trips since he was inagurated and Clinton had a total of 144 in his 8 years. All other presidents from Eisenhower to George HW Bush only had 1/2 that total. GWB only had a total of 34 in his 8 years and most of those were what the President does to represent our country. No other president except for Clinton cost the taxpayers to rent a vacation spot for August and not even Jackie Kennedy went to Paris and spent $1000.00 per night for 2 weeks. You can’t blame GWB for what is now Obama’s. He owns all the problems that are now. He is the one that is spending money that we do not have – including excessive travel. But I am happy that we live in a country that allows you to feel as you do and allows me to have my beliefs and neither of us have any problems except that you are liberal and I am conservative.
Ruth, I am truly sorry for you. You cannot rewrite history. What has happened, has happened. It really doesn’t matter what President Obama may or may not think. What really matter is, “Do you feel like he’s better than you?” You mentioned the 4.4 million he spent but you have not said anything about the 4 million he earned for us. I think if given time you will see the logic of his plans. Remember there is still over 300 million of the TARP money that has not been touched. I am not a liberal nor conservative. I am an American who wants only the best for my country. I really don’t care about politics but I do get upset when people will not think for themselves. I guess that comes from my profession. The chart I directed you to is not mine. I cannot take credit for it. But I will tell you one thing, if you open your mind and look for answer and ask God for understanding no one can lead you blindly. But yes you are entitled to your belief. I am curious to know what your beliefs are. It’s okay to hate but always know what you are hating. Don’t let me or anyone else lead you blindly. That is not my intentions. I just want people to take the time to think before responding.
Bobblehead Bob has sealed his fate in the next election. So has Barrett.
Inglis has lost his way. He was a true conservative when elected, but Washington is so corrupt that even a good man can’t resist infection..
As for Barrett, I will ask him where he was. I hope he has a good defense..
Like I have said – you have your opinion and I have mine and I happen to believe that Barack Obama is not a good President and that is all I am going to say any further. You can write what you want but I will not answer you any further. YOu can have the last word if you want because most liberals think they have to have the last word.
I really do not see the liberals running around screaming and hollering at anyone who listen. When you see all the interruptions and bad manners it is usually a conservative. But I forgot, conservatives believe they have right on their side. So it’s okay not to use good manners. Afterall, conservatives believe they will be the only ones in Heaven. I bet God is getting a good ha, ha!
To GGL and all–Have compassion and realize that you don’t live as a single entity. Unfortunately, hate goes back a long way in our state. The feeling that, “I have mine and I could care less if you’re suffering,” is hurtful to everyone, socially and in the long run, financially. It costs about $1800 per tax payer, per year to pay for the economic costs incurred by each high school drop-out. Much cheaper to educate people and improve society in the long run. I see it in our state. The wealthy areas can subsidize our educational system whose credo is to supply, “the bare minimum.” to the children of our state. Those are the exact words in the charter. Wealthy areas get better schools and poorer areas are caught in a vicious cycle of poverty. Cheaper to raise all the boats. It’s hard some times to see the big picture. It’s not naivete. And you shouldn’t tell anyone to shut their mouth. It just makes you look bad -like a hate mongerer, like one of the many who unfortunately just don’t know how to have a civil discourse. I see so much anger in these postings. It’s such an unproductive place to be coming from. The selfishness and the hypocrisy of those who call themselves Chrisitian is unsettling. Oh by the way, (tax and spend Democrat) Clinton left office with the highest budget surplus of any president. He also reduced the physical size of government in Washington by 1/3. All who post will do us all a favor by not lending yourself to stereotypes.
Thanks, Jethro, for the truth. That’s the only thing that will save us now.
To Betty Daniels,
I’d like to know how Obama “earned” $4 million for us…and exactly where you think this $300 million TARP money will come from?
In economics I learned that the only way any government can “have” anything is by “taking” it from the people. Sure, it can print dollar bills, but that is not creating wealth. Only we, the people, we the taxpayers can “earn” or create wealth for our nation.
And that’s a fact.
I am so sorry, the figure was wrong its $4 billion in interest that we, the taxpayers, have earned from the banks who have Paid back their TARP investment:
American Express: $3.34 billion
Goldman Sachs: $10 billion
Morgan Stanley: $10 billion
Bank of New York Mellon: $3 billion
U.S. Bancorp: $6.6 billion
BB&T: $3.13 billion
JPMorgan Chase: $25 billion
Capital One Financial: $3.13 billion
For some reasons, they didn’t like the red tape. And Guess What? Other companies are trying to pay back. So who knows, the money allowed may not be needed after all. Good news for the taxpayers.
Brenda, I am so happy that I did not take that class that you are talking about. I would hate for the government to ride my back for 8 more years. I am happy that the DEMS have found a way around that. Aren’t you?
Like most everyone, my faith and life experiences serve as the compass by which I set my course through life. For me, my experience as a husband, a father, a small business owner, and public servant all contribute to the decisions I make. But no experience has been more fundamental in the decisions I make than my experience in the United States Armed Services. I served for 3 years, from 1986 to 1989 in the U.S. Army Airborne, attaining the rank of SGT/E-5.
Military training has its basis on a few core principles; Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Courage. The military instills these values in those of us who are lucky enough to serve, and we are beholden to represent that those values as we transition into civilian life.
Some would argue that Congressman Joe Wilson had a right to confront the President of the United States. In the proper forum, I agree. However, in every military operation we are guided by rules of engagement; rules that help us define our mission, define when it is proper to act or react, and what amount of response is appropriate. These rules protect the lives of our fellow soldiers, and the civilians we are bound by duty to protect. Congressman Joe Wilson, who is a veteran, should have understood better the rules of engagement for the Presidential Address on Wednesday evening.
There is no protocol, or excuse for heckling the President of the United States during a speech, no matter what political party that President is from. Voicing opposition at that moment, in that setting, was a violation of the rules of engagement and disrespectful towards the Office of the President of the United States. On the field of battle, when someone violates the rules of engagement there are always consequences – many times mortal. Last Wednesday’s outburst, while not mortal in nature, did do damage. It set a standard of uncivil discourse as acceptable behavior. Behavior that is unbecoming of a veteran and a standing member of Congress.
When Congressman Wilson shouted ‘You lie!’ at President Obama, he also showed a perverse disregard for another important tenet of military training: respect for your commanding officer. Though the President is not in charge of any Member of Congress, the President is the Commander-in-Chief and the Office of the President is due respect. In the military, even in disagreement, we are taught to show superior officers the proper respect during formal occasions. The President of the United States is the Commander in Chief of all our countries proud armed forces. That title alone, demands the proper respect that is supposed to be instilled through military training. Either Congressman Wilson never learned or purposely chose to disregard his military training.
Im amazed at all the southern whites who take pleasure in a congressman disrespecting a Black President of the US on national TV before a joint session of congress. Considering these same people are still fighting to keep a symbol of slavery and segregation flying prominantly on the state house grounds Im not surprised they still view black people as second class citizens not deserving of the same respect accorded a white president. I say this with a bit of authority because this is the first time in the history of our country where a congressman has been rebuked for publicly disrespecting a sitting president on the floor of congress. Now SC has two firsts in Congress. Thurmond holds the record for his famous filibuster against civil rights in the 60’s and now Wilson calls the first Black President a liar on national tv before a joint session of congress. The Bush booing analogy falls flat its on face. They can’t even prove the boos didn’t come from members of the Republican Party and theres no comparison to shouting the president is a liar on national tv. These same people would want to organize a lynch party if a black congressman shouted You Lie to Ronald Reagan when he addressed Congress on Iran Contra. Imagine the national outcry if a black congressman shouted You Lie to Bush when he tried to convince a joint session of congress Saddam had weapons of mass destruction as a reason for invading Iraq.
