Congressman Joe Wilson may not have picked the best moment to voice his constituent’s complaints about President Barack Obama’s attempts to socialize health care, but he did so nonetheless.

I find it amusing that most of Obama’s opponents have such a difficult time spelling basic words. They’re not just innocent typos either. It’s a basic, “I can’t spell worth crap” kind of thing.

Ummm…www.factcheck.org, which is non partisan, agrees that the president’s statement regarding coverage of illegal immigrants is infactual. They stated that Congressman Wilson is incorrect on this issue. So this shirt is a declaration on being proudly wrong on a political issue?

The House bill (the only bill to be formally introduced in its entirety) specifically says that no federal money would be spent on giving illegal immigrants health coverage:

Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.
Also, under current law, those in the country illegally don’t qualify for federal health programs.
To pile on to the post @ 35 noting language in the House Bill precluding benefits to illegal aliens, the Senate HELP bill also provides corresponding language:
(h) NO FEDERAL FUNDING. — Nothing in this Act shall allow Federal payments for individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.

I am actually feeling sorry for the people of South Carolina. It is a beautiful state with a lot to offer our country. Also, I agree with the comment Posted by TS on 09/10/09 at 2:28 pm : “More like, ‘The Confederacy’s Congressman.” The Republican Party should rename itself the “Confederate Party.” They are certainly not the “Party of Lincoln.” If South Carolina dumps it’s nutcases it could actually become a vacation spot (or at least a place of interest for other Americans, which would result in a healthy culture exchange and economic boon for S.C.

ObamaCare supporters are ignorant. The Bill allows for setting up a “Health Insurance Exchange” and does not restrict noncitizens, whether here legally or illegally, from participating in the Exchange. The bill contains no verfication mechanism to make sure illegals do not get benefits.
SO WHO CARES if the bill states: “Nothing in this Act shall allow Federal payments for individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States”
IF THERE’S NO provision on how to verify if a person is a legally present in the US!

To close the loophole above – that no mechanism will exist to verify if a person is legally in the US – a Republican Congressman introduced an Amendment to the Bill to do so.
BUT the Democrats rejected the Amendment!
Th Bill also states: Sec 242(a)(2)
“[e]xcept as the Commissioner may otherwise provide, members of the same family who are affordable credit eligible individuals shall be treated as a single affordable credit individual eligible for the applicable credit for such a family under this subtitle.”
So, if one member of a family is legally eligible, every family member, illegal or not, will be considered eligible.
If there’s confusion as to who’s eligible, the that decision is determined by the Commissioner – appointed by the Governemnt!

HR3200 does not require anyone to prove citizenship while signing up for any kind of government healthcare, thus allowing illegals to receive services. This president does not have credibility with thinking Americans, so we don’t trust him in the least bit. He made too many promises that he does not keep one of which is bipartisanship. HR3200 does not require identification or proof of legal residence when applying for benefits. Gee, don’t you think 1 or 2 illegals might pick up on that? As it stands now they get free healthcare everytime they show up in an ER. It’s just that the hospitals absorb that cost. IF HR3200 gets passed, it will be all of us that actually pay taxes.
And by the way, the House Dems voted against the 2 amendments in Committee that would require proof of legal residence and both were proposed by Republicans.

Frank Lee (4:23), the section you quote does NOT say that an illegal relative of a legal immigrant gets any government subsidy. The section you quote quite clearly states that members (plural) of the same family who are “affordable credit eligible individuals” (which the bill expressly states do NOT include illegal aliens) shall be treated as a SINGLE credit. In other words, you get one credit for a family of eligible individuals covered by a family plan, not a bunch of individual credits. This provision just prevents double-dipping and has NOTHING to do with illegal aliens.

Frank Lee (4:16), you are confused about the Health Insurance Exchange concept. The Exchange is where individuals will go to buy insurance. It will pool all applicants so that individuals and small businesses can hopefully get close to the same premium quotes that large corporations and governments presently can get. To participate in the Exchange, you’ve got to PURCHASE a policy.
So why do you want to exclude illegal immigrants from the Exchange? If they aren’t insured, their care will be “free” at the emergency room and then you and I pay for it. I’d rather they be sent home (yes, I am against illegal immigration), but if they are here I certainly want to force them to pay for their own insurance.
Now, if the bill allowed illegals to participate in the SUBSIDY (the “affordable credit eligible”) you’d be right to scream bloody murder. But it doesn’t. In fact, illegals are expressly excluded from participating in any subsidy.
Finally, I’m not going to call you stupid. The bill is complex and deserves careful study. I sincerely appreciate and support your patriotic examination of pending legislation and I wish more people did the same.

We should be making it as uncomfortable as possible for them so that they would go back where they came from or apply for citizenship, and all of its benefits, the right way. I’m sorry, but the reality is that immigrants come here to arbitrage wage differences, not to get free medical care. Yes, once they are here and need emergency care, they get it because our hospitals are required to provide it. And that is exactly why they should be required to buy insurance from the Exchange without subsidy, just as the present health care bill requires.

I have read about the bill and read parts of the bill. It is evident that the current administration is definitely going to allow illegal aliens to receive health care. He as much as said so during an interview, but he says so many different things at different times depending upon his mood that no one really knows what is real intentions are to the American people.

The state of South Carolina has turned into one, big, sick joke. You see it in the state’s politicians. You see it in The State newspapers reporting, or more importantly, lack thereof. It was bad enough that the state of South Carolina continually ranked near the bottom of every category, to include unemployment and education, the level of poverty in the state, among other issues. It was bad enough that for decades, without fail, the electorate continually allowed the Republican Party to stay in power despite its inability to deal effectively with these issues. Now, like the Republican Party itself, the state of South Carolina has simply devolved into a national joke.
It started with State Treasurer Thomas Ravenel’s arrest for buying and distributing cocaine at parties as “party favors”. The City of Charleston police department pushed the investigation off onto the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED). SLED, consequently, pushed the investigation off onto the FBI to deal with, and, deal with it they did. Thomas Ravenel was arrested and charged under federal drug statutes and sentencing guidelines. That was quite a boon for Mr. Ravenel since the federal mandatory sentencing was far more lenient than state drug statutes. But, the circus didn’t stop at that point. The State newspaper refused to investigate just who it was at these parties given by Thomas Ravenel who was doing cocaine as “party favors”. Was it other GOP politicians? Was it young college Republicans? The State didn’t ask, and, the citizens of the state of South Carolina never found out.
When one of the state commission’s “lost” $50 million dollars of taxpayer money, The State never investigated where that money disappeared to, and, because of it, nobody has ever found out. It seemed that SLED was just as ineffectual in finding out. While members of the commission were “embarrassed”, nobody was ever charged with a crime. The money was never found. It was simply allowed to disappear down the rabbit hole and the state of South Carolina was the worse for it.
When The State was given emails between Gov. Mark Sanford and his mistress in Argentina, The State sat on the story for six months, only “breaking” the story once Gov. Sanford disappeared for a week leaving nobody in charge of the state. Once the questions about the Governor’s whereabouts started, The State then decided to “break” the story. Once that cat was out of the bag, and after it was reported that The State had the emails in their possession, did The State publish the emails. To add insult to injury, it took the Associated Press investigating, not The State newspaper, for the citizens of South Carolina to learn that the Governor illegally used the state aircraft for personal trips. To this day, Governor Sanford refuses to resign, and, The State newspaper still refuses to call for his resignation.
Then, when President Obama decided to address the school children, the GOP and its supporters called the action “indoctrination”. The State newspaper “reported” that “other districts” were doing it, and, let it end there. This was despite that Ronald Reagan address school children, George H.W. Bush addressed school children, and George W. Bush was reading My Pet Goat with school children the morning of 9/11. No, because there were “concerned parents”, ie, a bunch of ideological bat-shit insane parents that didn’t want their children to hear a Democrat President, school districts in South Carolina decided to let parents keep their children home and The State newspaper’s Editorial Board was silent once again.
The latest joke is South Carolina Representative Joe Wilson who called President Obama a liar during his address to a joint session of Congress. Rep. Wilson’s rudeness was the least of his transgression, though, since the issue on which he called the President a liar was that the health care reform bill would allow coverage to extend to illegal aliens. In fact, the health care bill specifically states that no federal funds can be used for illegal aliens, making then, Rep. Joe Wilson not only a classless, rude individual, but, the one who is the liar. But, to read The State newspaper, Rep. Joe Wilson’s action is just another “he said/she said” situation as it was “reported” that the reaction to Rep. Joe Wilson’s action was “mixed”. The State’s Editorial Board is, once again, silent.
It is because of the actions of the GOP these past eight years that the GOP has been relegated to being a regional political Party that is only good to play obstructionist. It is because of its lies that seniors have been terrorized, being told that Democrats wanted to “kill grandma” and health care reform would institute “death panels”. It is because of the GOP and its astroturfing organizations that Town Hall debates turned into screaming matches in which the people spouted these lies despite the facts. It is because of the lack of journalism done by The State that the citizens of South Carolina still do not know the facts, of anything, that has happened in the past, or, that is happening today.
Rep. Joe Wilson has made a video trying to raise money off of his classless, rude, factually incorrect outburst. He claims that he will not be “muzzled” by Democrat’s as if he was right to call the President a liar, or, that he was right on the issue itself. Obviously, this video was done by Rep. Wilson because his challenger Rob Miller has raised over half a million dollars from his one outburst. Rob Miller did not have to beg for donations, however, as Rep. Wilson is doing.
In fact, the GOP, its operatives, and its organizations, have called for people to show up to Town Halls to create disorder. They have called for people to show up to Presidential events armed. They have pushed lie after lie trying to terrorize the populace and create a culture of fear. Outside of the 20% that still calls itself Republican, these actions are reprehensible. Inside that 20%, and inside of South Carolina, these bat-shit insane lunatics are still being treated as serious, concerned individuals. The violence that has already erupted is not lost on the rest of us from the attack on the holocaust museum, to the officers shot and killed in Pennsylvania.
Republican’s believe that these actions will somehow propel them back to power. The reverse is true; they lost power in 2006 and they lost even more in 2008. The people of South Carolina, one of the bastions of conservatism, have turned from solid Republican to a mere majority of Republican’s. Yet, The State newspaper continues to play apologist for the GOP’s actions. It still refuses to act in a responsible manner. It continues to be nothing more than a GOP shill rag even as the GOP lose its support even in South Carolina.
I have lived in South Carolina for 20 years. This state has simply gone from being one of the worst to being nothing more than a national joke, all thanks to Republican politicians and The State newspaper.

The powerful House committee that decides and controls the nation’s tax policy has essentially voted to give illegal immigrants health benefits under President Obama’s proposed multi trillion-dollar government plan.
On the heels of a national poll revealing that most Americans want illegal aliens excluded from national health coverage, the U.S. House of Representatives’ Committee on Ways and Means defeated a measure designed to reduce taxpayers’ liability by ensuring that undocumented immigrants don’t qualify for the benefits.
In a straight party line vote of 23-18, the committee rejected a Nevada congressman’s amendment requiring the federal government to confirm health care eligibility with the same databases currently used to screen welfare recipients. The government assures that illegal aliens don’t receive taxpayer-financed welfare benefits by utilizing the Income and Eligibility Verification System and the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements system.
Neither will be utilized to screen illegal immigrants when America’s Affordable Health Care Choices Act kicks in, however. Caving into the influential open borders movement, House Democrats refused to take action to limit the health system overhaul’s already outrageous and still-growing tab.
Nevada Republican Dean Heller offered the amendment as a cost-cutting effort by requiring the use of existing citizenship verification tools for the new health plans. The government-run healthcare system will kill jobs, hurt families and result in massive federal spending, according to the lawmaker. But if it passes, at least the government should assure that only citizens and legal residents get the taxpayer-funded healthcare, he says.
U.S. taxpayers already spend billions of dollars annually to provide free medical care for illegal immigrants with states that border Mexico taking the biggest hit. The expense has become so unbearable in California-long an illegal alien sanctuary-that several municipalities eliminated the perk this year to save tens of millions of dollars in the midst of the state’s dire financial crisis.
It hasn’t stopped Mexico’s government from operating programs in about a dozen American cities referring its nationals – living in the U.S. illegally – to publicly funded health centers where they can get free medical care without being turned over to immigration authorities.
While this may sound too outrageous to be true, it’s very real. The program is called Ventanillas de Salud (Health Windows) in Spanish and its mission is to help illegal immigrants find U.S. hospitals, clinics and other government programs where they can get free services without being deported for violating federal immigration laws. Imagine the campaign Mexico will launch when Obama’s national health care bill passes.

Actually, you are not FORCED into anything. You will have the CHOICE to enter the public option IF you are dropped by your employer or your insurance company.
If your company CHOOSES to drop you having insurance, and many companies NOW don’t even OFFER such plans to its employees, this public option gives you a choice of insurance that will be cheaper than COBRA.

Perhaps you should look up how many states issue driver’s licenses to illegal aliens? The reason why Canadians must flock to the US for high-tech treatments and scanners is because Canada – with “free” healthcare for all – doesn’t have enough to go around. This is basic economics, but it is lost on many of the commenters here apparently (I’m thinking specifically about the supergenius above who pointed out the the insurance companies – plural – have a monopoly).

People ask us how business is going all the time…my normal response is “great, we deal with gov, they always have money” They work on a budget that is created a year in advance. So…if they get an increase in a portion of their budget one year for a new computer, they don’t necessarily take it out for the next year. The standard policy is that budgets don’t go down. They increase.
Now we are in the process of growing due to the kids being in college and out of the house. But, it is all about economics. We are VERY stable and owe no one anything. We pay cash for all purchases. For this…we are very stable. We run our house the same way. Are you getting where I’m going? Its called accountability. It appears that even though this is the richest Nation in the world and that we give more than any other Nation in the world. Our health care, though not perfect, is the best in the world. Why you might ask. Because we don’t believe you can place a price on human life.

The first time we were attacked in an act of terrorism was the Beirut bombing of the Marine barracks. Why were we bombed? Because we went into Beirut and provided cover for the Israeli army and other factions. Of course we got bombed.
The second time was in 1993 with the first WTC tower bombing. We had already won the first Iraq war, of which I was a part, and having bases in Saudi Arabia, we refused to declare victory and simply leave. In fact, we left our forces in Saudi for another 14 years, until we invaded Iraq again in 2003. Only THEN did we pull our forces from Saudi.
Why do we think they tried to bomb us?
Because we supported Saddam Hussein in the ’80’s, despite him gassing the Kurds. He was OUR dictator.
We overthrew the Iranian government in 1953 and made Iranian’s live under a brutal dictator until 1979 when they revolted.

Here’s the problem with the insurance industry.
First of all, I’m agreeing with you, Michael Gass, on a lot of things, and I know this is a Democratic talking point, but it’s very misleading to say insurance companies have a monopoly on insurance. If you word it like that, of course they do. The auto industry has a monopoly on producing cars, and the oil industry has a monopoly on oil. An “industry” cannot have a monopoly. Now, if one insurer controlled the entire insurance market nationwide, then that would be a monopoly. Now, we do have mini-monopolies, where nearly everyone in a particular region or state is a customer of one insurer. And that’s a problem, but that’s not what people are talking about.
The problem with the health insurance industry is simply that we have for-profit enterprises offering insurance for what should be a human right. Every single person should have equal access to quality health care. Period. It is insane that the richest country in the world is one of the worst at providing care for its people. I believe that every person has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and that is not possible if you can’t go to the doctor or afford your medications.
The entire purpose of government is to protect our basic rights. If it doesn’t do that, then what’s the point of having one? The government has a responsibility to ensure that every citizen has access to the best health care available. And that means without losing all their savings if they get very sick. The structures we have in place are simply not designed to do this. They are built on profit motives and the insurance principle. People without access to insurance at work–who are often those with the least means–pay three times what the rest of us do. And 40 million of us just can’t afford that, so they do without and hope nothing goes wrong.
The problem with the insurance industry is that it shouldn’t exist.

The baby was taken to a clinic then driven by ambulance to Greenwood Hospital then Air Vaced to Augusta where a Neurosurgeon flew in from Ohio to do surgery on a Marie Shivo child that is now 5 years older. Donny Mires and his dream team of layers took a week to prosecute this babysitter while twelve people missed work for a week. The appointed defense got up for 10 minutes on Friday and basically said “the babysitter is innocent”. We had translators throughout the trial. Long, drawn-out is to say the least. About that Republican amendment to require an ID to get health care. Is a hospital supposed to turn away a person with a communcable disease, e.g. TB, because they do not have an ID so that person can go back out into the community and infect others? What about swine flu victims? Do we want to turn them away from heath care so they can infect he rest of us? Or should we just let them die because they do not have an ID when a simple shot might save them?
Would a hospital which treats an accident victim near death without an ID be in violation of the Republican amendment?
Was the ID amendment a backdoor attempt by the Republicans to get a national ID system put in place which they have not yet been successful at accomplishing through straight up legislative efforts? Given the historic misuse of national ID in other countries, and the potential for misuse here, is a national ID something that we really want to institute as a big government program? Do we really want to back door a national ID program by trying to piggy-back it on health care reform?

For example Section 1111(a)(2) of HR 3200 provides “(2) ADJUSTMENT IN RECALIBRATION FACTOR- Based on the initial analysis under paragraph (1), the Secretary shall adjust the case mix indexes under section 1888(e)(4)(G)(i) of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 1395yy(e)(4)(G)(i)) for fiscal year 2010 by the appropriate recalibration factor as proposed in the proposed rule for Medicare skilled nursing facilities issued by such Secretary on May 12, 2009 (74 Federal Register 22214 et seq.).” Did you check the Social Security Act and the May 12 proposed rule for Medicare skilled nursing facilities to understand how it all fits together? Maybe doing so would have clarified some of the “loopholes” that you found in the bill when you read it.
My point is that the attempt to somehow smear proponents of the legislation with the charge that they “did not read the bill” is a red herring. Legislation this involved is always drafted by statutory drafting experts after getting direction from the legislators requesting the legislation. These drafting experts, who are non-partisan (and human) ocassionally make errors, so that there is normally a “technical corrections” bill that follows the enactment of major legislation. Finally, committee reports to help understand the intent of the provisions in the bill are generally published.
In this process, the role of the legislator is to understand the intent of what s/he is voting on, not to read the verbatim language of the bill, and vote based on his/her determination of the merits of the legislation.

And it is not acceptable to me that corporations such as Walmart can pay their full time employees such low wages that they actually qualify for and receive food stamps and live without health care. If you personally can afford health care, you are lucky. But what about your brothers and sisters? Jesus said “As you do unto others so you have done unto me”. This isnt a game. I know a family of 3 young boys who’s father DIED because he did not have health insurance and the hospital he was rushed to refused, on that basis, to help him. This was a working man who loved his children. This was an American. Like I said, Belgium, New Zealand, Japan and many other civilized countries have health care for all of their citizens and it hasnt led to the destruction of their democratic sytems. Why do we feel that only those who can afford health care should have it? How can we be a nation UNDER GOD when we have this attitude?

I believe it was Jesus who made the claim that “inasmuch as you did not do things to help the poor, the naked, and the oppreseed, just so much he will not support those people on judgement day.” No matter what set of plans are put forth for national health care, there will be significant flaws to them. However, our concern for those less fortunate should overrule our concern, or at least lead us to propose and equally sweeping enterprise in some manner. I haven’t heard this from you or your party. Both political parties are equally to blame for not enforcing the 1986 Immigration Control & Reform Act that was inundated with fraud and a desire to weaken the laws. * Section 1702 of the bill requires that “the State shall accept without further determination the enrollment under [the Medicaid program] of an individual determined by the Commissioner to be a non-traditional Medicaid eligible individual.” However, the bill does not require the government to apply the existing citizenship and identity verification requirements that exist in the current Medicare statute.
* Section 1714 states, “in determining eligibility for services under this subsection, the State may consider only the income of the applicant or recipient.” This means that for certain non-essential services, the State can disregard an individual’s immigration status and look only at the individual’s income.

What people don’t realize is Congressman Joe Wilson is right. Regardless of what legislation is passed illegal aliens will have access to health care. It is difficult for me to conceive someone bleeding or with an appendage missing, illegal or otherwise, being turned away from the emergency room of a self-respecting hospital. Perhaps a better choice of words would have been more appropriate but he is nonetheless right. As a Joe Wilson, I gotta have one of those T’s. Make my wife wear it.
