CONGRESSMAN IGNORES VOTERS, CONTINUES PUSHING GOVERNMENT-RUN PLAN

Quirky ole South Carolina Congressman Bob Inglis thinks he knows what’s best in the controversial debate over President Barack Obama’s government-run health care plan.

The only problem? His constituents staunchly oppose his position that some see as creating socialized health care. And it could very likely end up costing him his fourth district seat.

From the Wall Street Journal:

Mr. Inglis favors requiring everyone to carry health insurance, which he said the government “is uniquely suited” to enforce. He also supports making insurers guarantee coverage to anyone willing to pay for it, subsidizing premiums for people on low incomes and a series of policy changes intended to reduce premiums for everyone.

He is finding it risky as he searches for a middle ground acceptable to those who support providing more people with coverage, and those who don’t want any expansion of the government’s role.

The congressman faces four conservative challengers in a Republican primary next year. Nationally, just 21% of respondents to a NBC News poll released Tuesday said they approved of how Republicans in Congress were handling the health-care issue.

David Thomas, a state senator from Greenville who is one of Mr. Inglis’s challengers in the primary next year, said in reference to Mr. Inglis’s proposals: “Anything that smells of a socialistic approach to government and to involvement in the health-care system, I don’t think I’d make it into an issue, it is automatically an issue.”

I give Inglis credit for trying, but he probably should have paid closer attention to the throngs of angry constituents that shouted him out of the room at a recent town hall meeting.

The message seemed pretty loud and clear to logical folks — the people in that room and in that district don’t want government-run health care. Inglis would be wise to take better note or he could learn the hard way during next June’s Republican primary.

Inglis’ proposal would cost the taxpayers $500,000,000,000 for the first $2000 of coverage every year for each individual in America!

A measured approach would be to make a pie chart of health care costs. Then, start chewing on the biggest pie of pie.

At least Inglis is a Republican showing some leadership. More than we can say for some others.

Inglis needs a good Republican primary challenger. We need to start cleaning up the party and challenging them in primaries and get a conservative message out. Inglis is not conservative and is more concerned about what the beltway thinks of him than with his own constituents. He needs to be challenged along with Herny Brown next year and Graham in 2014.

“Mr. Inglis favors requiring everyone to carry health insurance, which he said the government “is uniquely suited” to enforce.”

I don’t know about anyone else, but if I could could pay for insurance , I would have it! I am unemployed, I have not had my blood pressure meds in more then 6 months! I spent my last 4 dollars to buy aspirin ( doctor recommended to me ). My last 4 bucks!
It is not for the Government to require me, it is for me to mandate the government ! This is NOT a ‘ fix ‘ this is paternalism! I understand ‘ Medicare for all ‘ What I don’t understand is the thinking behind extracting blood from a stone!
Is this not the same ‘ Idea ‘ Hillary Clinton came up with?

You’re slanting Inglis’ proposal, as it is far more conservative than you give it credit for.

[...] so far. Eventually, people get pretty tired of having a certifiably crazy Congressman who favors government-run health care and taxpayer-funded vacations to exotic locations. Posted in National News, Top Story [...]
