CANDIDATE BLASTS WOULD-BE COLLEAGUES FOR SPENDING $180 MILLION IN JULY
The man who could be the next representative from South Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District is already taking some of his would-be colleagues to task for out-of-control spending.
State Rep. Rex Rice, who is running for the seat being vacated by Gresham Barrett, called Congress’ $180 Billion in new deficit spending during the month of July “criminal.”
“Congress is out of control,” said Rice, who recently launched a “Stop Deficit Spending” website. “They continue to write bad checks for bailouts and clunkers that neither we nor our children can afford. In the real world, one might say such behavior is criminal.”
Rice, a small business owner, noted that the July spending brought the Fiscal Year 2009 deficit to an unfathomable $1.3 Trillion.
The eight-term state representative said a 22 percent increase in government spending coupled with a 17 percent decrease in revenues has caused the national debt to eclipse $11.6 trillion. He added that projections show that by September 2012, the national debt will reach $16.2 trillion.
“We cannot allow Congress to continue mortgaging the economic freedom of future generations,” Rice said. “That is why we must send a clear message: stop deficit spending and cut the waste in Washington.”
