AG ADDS STATE’S TOP COMMUNICATION GURU, FUNDRAISER
Attorney General Henry McMaster has taken the first step toward becoming a gubernatorial candidate by filing paperwork with the South Carolina Ethics Commission, the Associated Press is reporting.
McMaster, long rumored to be getting into the race to become the state’s next top executive, filed a campaign disclosure form Monday that indicates he is running for governor.
In July, McMaster reported having $1.1 million on hand, much of which is currently being transferred into the new gubernatorial account.
The McMaster campaign also announced Monday that they had hired communications guru Rob Godfrey to lead their press shop. Godfrey served as the South Carolina Republican Party’s communications director under Chairman Katon Dawson and had been serving as an advisor at the State House of Representatives Republican Caucus.
“We are pleased to welcome Rob Godfrey to our team,” said Attorney General Henry McMaster. ”Rob brings with him invaluable experience working not only with members of the media across the state but also with Republican leaders and grassroots activists in every county. He will have an immediate positive impact.”
McMaster also recently added the state’s preeminent fundraiser, Sunny Philips, to his campaign staff. Philips worked at the SCGOP spearheading their fundraising efforts and is a veteran of countless statewide and Congressional campaigns in South Carolina.
While both Godfrey and Philips are currently part of McMaster’s attorney general re-elect campaign, it is very likely they will help fill out the core of his gubernatorial campaign.

We’ve seen Henry around the state for many years. Whenever we see him, he’s always enthusiastic. We appreciate that greatly and look forward to supporting him in this run for office.

Rob is a classy guy and will far outshine the clowns on the other gubernatorial teams in South Carolina.
So far, Henry Mac’s pic for campaign staff looks better than other pics made by candidates, seems Henry knows the difference between good and bad in South Carolina.
