ATTORNEY GENERAL PROMISES TO PROTECT TAXPAYERS

Likely gubernatorial candidate Henry McMaster is vowing not to raise taxes should he become South Carolina’s top executive. And he’s putting his promise in writing.

“I am proud to announce Henry will be signing the Americans for Tax Reform’s No Tax Pledge today,” McMaster spokesman Brad Henry said Friday. “As we all know, lower taxes create economic bounty.”

McMaster is the first gubernatorial candidate — announced or unannounced — to sign the ATR taxpayer protection pledge, which requires “candidates and incumbents [to] solemnly bind themselves to oppose any and all tax increases.”

While ATR monitors those who take the pledge, the organization notes that elected officials are ultimately responsible to their constituents.

McMaster, who has served as the state’s attorney general since 2003, is expected to run for governor in 2010 to replace term-limited Gov. Mark Sanford.

Really? So, we elect Henry and get the same as usual with more budgets in the red? No thanks. I do suppose the people who want it all for nothing will vote for him.

Yep, HSPD is right, we need to know if this pledge includes opposition to raising the user fees/taxes on cigarette purchases.

McMaster has refused to investigate a very large crime occurring in our state. So has the US Attorney by the way, just fyi.

McMaster is more of Sanford. More bull, more self agrandizing politics, Barrett the same, Bauer the same. I’m with Jamie above…
let’s give Vince a chance and get out from under MOB RULE for a few years please ya’ll

Good for the AG, however, a pleged is like Governor Stanford promising to be faithful to his wife! Or better yet, Governor Sara Palin promising to finish her term in Alaska since she hates being a lane term Moose Governor…….

Is that like an abstinence pledge?
    How juvenile.
And, an indication of lack of independent thought.
Republic Party members just need to click those heels, raise that arm in salute and say “Seig Heil!!”

Oh boy..Here we go again…same ole, same ole. Just when I thought Henry was doing well. Put that brain on the shelf so we don’t have to make the tough decisions that one is elected to make. This is an example the influence Washington special interests will have on HM.
