STATE REP LAUNCHES SITE URGING AMERICANS TO SIGN PETITION

A South Carolina state representative is calling on Americans to join him in demanding that Congress stops deficit spending. And he has created an innovative new website to serve as a catalyst for the movement.

Rex Rice, a Republican candidate for the state’s 3rd Congressional District, launched StopDeficitSpending.com Wednesday to urge people to go online and sign a petition calling on Congress to quit spending money that America doesn’t have.

“If we do not stop deficit spending today, Congress will continue to mortgage the economic freedom of future generations,” said Rice, a candidate for Congress and veteran lawmaker in the State House.

“That is something we can neither allow nor afford. As a father of two daughters and a small businessman, this is not only a political matter; it is also a personal one. I want to ensure all of America’s children are afforded the same opportunities to pursue the American Dream that I have enjoyed throughout my life.”

According to the site, the national debt is now over $11.5 trillion. Congress has added more than $1 trillion in new deficit spending in 2009 alone, the site says.

If divided equally, each American is currently responsible for $38,000 of the national debt. By 2012, that number will exceed $55,000 for every American man, woman, and child.

“In the State House, we have to balance the budget each and every year,” Rice said. “If we don’t have the money, we don’t spend it. I think that’s a pretty good rule and one that’s needed in Washington. That is why I support a balanced budget amendment and why I am urging fellow citizens to get involved and sign the petition at StopDeficitSpending.com.”

Rice said he will deliver the petitions to lawmakers later this year as part of his efforts to point out the need to stop deficit spending in Washington.
