DUKE SANDWICH OWNER ENDORSES GOWDY CAMPAIGN
The crowded field to challenge Bob Inglis got a little less crowded Friday as some guy I’ve never heard of dropped out of the race for South Carolina’s 4th Congressional District.
Andrew Smart, who apparently owns Duke Sandwich’s Company, said he was quitting because no one knew who he was and he didn’t feel like wasting a year and countless thousands of dollars trying to make up for that.
Well, he didn’t exactly say that… but he didn’t exactly need to, either.
In a short press conference, not ironically held at a Duke Sandwich’s Company restaurant, Smart said, “today, I step down from my campaign for U.S. Congress and I step up to support Trey Gowdy in his campaign for U.S. Congress.”
Gowdy, the solicitor for South Carolina’s 7th Circuit, accepted the endorsement saying, “uhh, I am honored to have, uhh, Andrew, uhh, and Julie Smart, uhh, Ms. Cheryl Smart, umm, their friendship for the last couple of months, umm, has been, uhh, worth this process alone. Umm, I’m looking forward to the next, uhh, months and years.”
Smart leaves the race only a month after State Sen. David Thomas (R-Greenville) entered the race.
Thomas, along with Gowdy, will likely present Inglis the most difficult challenge of his Congressional career in what many believe will be a hard-fought three-way Republican primary next June.

Actually Rachel, unlike you I am a voter in the 4th congressional district and follow politics very closely. It is interesting that you would be supporting a candidate in the 4th CD Republican primary (I see your endorsement of Jeffrey on your website) and be calling a voter in that very primary a “Retarded Republican.” Anyway, most rational political observers who know a thing or two about politics like me will tell you that Jeffrey is a long-shot at best.
Also I see from your website that you like Dr. Paul and hate neo-cons…you may want to check out Dr. Jeffrey’s campaign site for her positions on the War on Terror…sounds a lot closer to the Republican majority than the Ron Paul-ites to me.

She is a total professional and her campaigns have proven it in the past with her massive fan support and election results with millions of voters ……She cannot be bought nor accepts donations from anybody. Interesting exchange in that the comments merely suggest only this or that candidate can mount a viable opposition to the incumbent; or that this or that candidate should drop out or even has no business in the race at all with zero mention of the candidates qualities, experiences, and views. Though I am not a SC CD 4 voter, might I recommend scrutinizing each candidate on their political views, ideas, their history, and, nowadays, especially their personal lives to the greatest extent possible. Just a thought.
BTW – and in the interest of full disclosure – I know Jim Lee personally and serve with him in the U.S. AF Reserves. You will not find a more well-rounded, upstanding, family-oriented, spiritually-grounded, and trustworthy person. Don’t take my word for it. His trustworthiness is born out by the trust the federal gov. has extended to him during his nearly three decades of military service, granting him some of the nation’s highest security clearances. He has sworn – with each enlistment/re-enlistment – to not only support and defend the Constitution but also to bear true faith and allegiance to the same!
Maybe this time “We the people” – and not only the wealthy/politically connected donors – should decide who to send to Washington.
