TPS’ FAVORITE NASCAR DRIVER WILL HAVE NEW TEAM IN 2010

An era ended this week for The Palmetto Scoop’s favorite NASCAR driver, as Martin Truex Jr. announced that he would be leaving Earnhardt Ganassi Racing for the up-and-coming Michael Waltrip Racing.

Truex, who has had a rough 2009 season and currently sits a disappointing 24th in the Sprint Cup Series standings, will drive the flagship No. 56 NAPA Camry at MWR.

“I’m excited,” said Truex, who currently drives the No. 1 Bass Pro Shops/Tracker at Earnhardt Ganassi. “I haven’t been excited about anything like this for a long time. I feel good about it.”

The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

This year marks the 29 year old’s fourth season at Earnhardt Ganassi, but experts predict he may not finish the year there. Rumors are that Truex could be MWR before the end of the season.

Truex has one career win, 33 top ten finishes and made the Sprint Cup Chase in 2007.

Sadly, this move means I will have to dole out cash on all new Truex No. 56 gear. Don’t these people understand we are in a recession?

56 was the car number on his family owned Busch North team up in NJ. Good to see him getting away from that EGR crowd.
