TWO PROMINENT SC DEMOCRATS LEADING ‘RESIGN OR IMPEACH’ CAMPAIGN

A planned “citizens rally” at the Statehouse Friday encouraging Gov. Mark Sanford to resign or be impeached being billed as a non-partisan grassroots movement may be neither.

In fact, critics say the group may have one very powerful, partisan backer: President Barack Obama.

The SC Hotline blog wrote Tuesday that the organizers of the July 9 “Resign or Impeach” rally are connected with Obama, while the event itself may be linked to the president’s “Organizing for America” campaign.

Not only does the rally appear on the OFA website, but all available contact information leads back to two prominent state Democrats with ties to Obama: Marilyn Hemingway and Mike Evatt.

Hemingway, whose name is listed on the group’s email account, denied that the Obama organization was behind the effort.

“The allegations are not true,” Hemingway wrote in an email to The Palmetto Scoop. “The Citizen’s Rally is being hosted by volunteers from the Impeach Mark Sanford Facebook Group.”

Joanne Peters, the Regional Press Secretary for OFA, also asserted that OFA had nothing to do with the anti-Sanford movement and that none of the organization’s staff were involved in the rally.

“This event is not an OFA or [Democratic National Comittee] event,” Peters said. “The mybarackobama web site is open for anyone to post an event. Our policy on the web site clearly states that events on the mybarackobama web site are not necessarily endorsed by OFA or the DNC.”

But Hemingway was an Obama delegate to last year’s Democratic National Convention and she also recently ran for First Vice Chair of the State Democratic Party.

Hemingway appears to be assisted in the effort by Evatt, whose phone number is listed as the point of contact on the Facebook group. Evatt is a member of the State Democratic Party Executive Committee.

The SC Hotline discovery is an indicator of what many believe to be a foregone conclusion — that Democrats plan to attack South Carolina Republican candidates with Sanford’s infidelity. This event may just be the opening salvo.

Interestingly, an OFA volunteer had planned a Public Health Care Canvass in the same place on the day, but apparently shifted gears once Sanford’s infamous absence and affair became a worldwide sensation.

The organizer of the health care canvass, however, wrote on the OFA website “I don’t think OFA has any position on Governor Sanford, so we’ll just be supporting the President’s agenda in a positive fashion.”

Well we could have only known this was going to happen, But the crowd ought to be small.

I would hardly call Marilyn Hemingway a prominent state democrat.

There is nothing wrong with anyone organizing and protesting the foul illicit actions of this man Mark Sanford. He deserves to be protested and should be removed from office. What if…

What if Sanford were a democrat?
What if Sanford were an African American?
What if Sanford had a physical disability?

Would any of that matter to you…. because it matters like all get out to Mark.

He judges you , you see. But you are not allowed to judge the SC GOP who spit in the constituents faces this week.

    GO AWAY MARK SANFORD>

Obama has better things to do than be concerned with SC’s petty politics.

    Cost for Sanford trips $70,000

Taxpayers have spent another $380,000 for governor to fly on state plane

Since taking office in 2003, Sanford has taken at least one major international trip a year, flying to China, Japan, Great Britain, France, Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Brazil and several other countries

In 2007, he touched down on two continents, attending the Paris Air Show that June and in China a few months later. On these long trips, Sanford often flew business class at a cost of several thousand dollars a ticket.

These costs are in addition to the more than $380,000 in expenses the governor’s office has tallied using the state’s plane to fly Sanford, his staff and family on hundreds of flights throughout South Carolina and other states.

After he was elected to Congress in 1994, he agonized about a 1995 trip to Chile, Brazil and Argentina. “I know politically it’s not the right thing ever to go on any trip,”

As a congressman, and later as governor, Sanford became a frequent flyer.

    • A trip July 16-18, 2006, to the Farnborough Air Show outside London. The Commerce Department said Sanford also held a dinner with a business prospect. The governor’s tab for his airfare alone: $7,063.

    • The Paris Air Show and Germany June 16-24, 2007, where the governor and aides held meetings with business and government officials. Sanford canceled meetings in Stockholm and returned early because of the Sofa Super Store fire. Sanford’s plane tickets cost $9,890.

    • Poland and Germany in April, where Sanford and aides met with BMW executives and government officials. Sanford’s costs were $5,035. He also returned early from that trip, this time because of the wildfires in Myrtle Beach.

    • The most publicized trip, however, has been the economic development mission Sanford took to Brazil and Argentina June 21-27 last year. Sanford’s air fare was $8,687, credit card receipts show. During the trip, Sanford secretly met Maria Belen Chapur, his mistress. Sanford recently paid back about $3,000, which he said was the Argentine leg’s cost.

I’m heading to Columbia today for the rally. As a registered independent, the thought of being surrounded by major extremists and those with other agendas is not a pleasant one by any means. However, I am grateful for whomoever is willing to gather SCers together for this critical purpose of demanding honesty in gov’t and integrity for SC children who deserve better for a Gov.

I participated in a sweet tea party so why not a pig roast?!

SANFORD SCANDAL PLAGUES STATE’S WEB PORTAL

The Lovenator Sanfraud’s Internet Traffic overwhelms Official State Web portal

A surge of hits overran the state Web portal during the long Fourth of July weekend, slowing, stalling and at times crashing the server…

On Friday alone, when state offices were closed for the holiday, the number of hits on the site more than doubled the previous highest day’s use. …a 400-500 percent increase in traffic on the governor’s Web site. …computers “timed out,” or lost access to the site… resulting in no access to the State’s web portal or in some cases a 40 minutes or more wait..

“That had a significant impact on all our systems,” Moore said, because all state sites run through a single system.

“Yep, Gov. Mark Sanford was getting a lot of attention in the wake of revealing his affair with an Argentine woman.”

SANFRAUD TRIPPING OVER HIMSELF, CAN’T KEEP HIS STORIES STRAIGHT

In 1998, here’s what the then-congressman had to say about the Bill Clinton sex scandal: “What the American public cares about is the issue of trust… because if they don’t trust their lawmaker… they won’t trust the laws that the lawmaker creates.“

Sanford also spoke to the Post and Courier in 1998 about Clinton. He said, “I think it would be much better for the country and for him personally (to resign). I come from the business side. If you had a chairman or president in the business world facing these allegations, he’d be gone.“

The statement had a good deal to do with Clinton not telling the truth under oath, but later that year, Sanford addressed another sex scandal with Louisiana congressman Bob Livingston.

“The bottom line is that he still lied. He lied under a different oath and that’s the oath to his wife… so it’s got to be taken very very seriously,“ Sanford said.
Now more than 10 years later Sanford is in the grips of a sex scandal of his own.

Don’t you just love those, “Astro-Turfers” Like what Pelosi called the tea party Rallys. Doesn’t surprise me that Obama wants to keep Sanford down. I do think Sanford is probably a big pass for 2012 and Obama need to focus on His Non-read Bill Campaign

    McLovin-

Doing spinwork like this for Sanford, just to keep Bauer out of office is as blatant as it gets. I’ve been told that Marilyn Hemingway is a joke within Democratic circles, so I wouldn’t call her a “prominent” Democrat for a minute.

It’s funny how you were one of Sanford’s biggest critics a month ago, but now you’re defending him and spinning for him every chance you get. The media knows about the coordinated efforts between RQA and the Sanford camp… it’s only a matter of time before the other shoe drops.

There is more to the sad Sanford story than has been told to date, and at least three of the key principals have not even been identified publicly.

Is someone planning a book? Might it be Sanford himself?

Possible Hints: “Soulmate” Maria may have had a more worldly interest in Sandford’s downfall than ever settling down with him.
In fact, she may already have rejected him. How much has Maria been rewarded by Sanford foes through a mystery middleman?

Is her ex-lover a lawyer with ties to any SC trial lawyers?

If Sanford met a femme fatale, who arranged the “chance” encounter?

    Just a thought.

By the way, I am guessing the Fowlers are either surreptitiously behind the anti-Sanford Rally, or approved it.

S.C. Gov. Sought ‘Light’ Schedule for 2008 Trip to Argentina

meetings for him in Buenos Aires in June 2008, but he repeatedly emphasized his desire to keep a “light” and “low-key” schedule in his three days there

asked his staff to arrange for him to peel off to Buenos Aires,

“The governor has decided he didn’t want to do that (hunting trip) the full time but wanted to make some calls in Buenos Aires,”

email records show, a commerce employee explained to the U.S. Embassy in Argentina that there was no need for the governor’s visits with Argentinian officials to be lengthy or formal.

“The Governor is perfectly content with meeting for a drink, or something to that effect” …”but would prefer that Friday be a little more low key.”

Sanford’s itinerary for Friday, June 27 indicates he planned to do self-guided sight-seeing, but he has since admitted he spent it with his girlfriend …in the June pre-planning, Graham asked the Argentinian-based U.S. officials about connecting the governor with a real estate broker on that Friday.

State Sen. John M. “Jake” Knotts Jr. (R), a vocal critic of Sanford, said the trip to Argentina was “totally uncalled for.” …”He connived a way to use the taxpayers’ money to get to see his ’soul mate,’ as he calls her,” Knotts said in an interview today. “He called and he orchestrated the Argentina trip. There was no reason to go to Argentina except to waste the taxpayers’ money and use a deal about a hunting trip. We’re not in the business of going hunting whenever we’re looking for jobs.”

Marilyn Armstrong was not an Obama delegate — she was an Edwards delegate. You need to make a correction.

  14. 14.

jaded – She became an Obama delegate after the Edwards affair was revealed. Ergo, as I wrote, she “was an Obama delegate to last year’s Democratic National Convention.”

    Visitor,

Generally readers of Adam Fogle’s valuable blog have the decorum and decency to refrain from showing strangers what baser instincts may have been leftover from their traumatic adolescence. Perhaps you are still in your traumatic adolescence, in which case you may be excused.

As to your outrageous generalization that Adam’s “claims are false”, do I detect the desperate tactic of a first year law student?
