GIESE ARRESTED IN CHARLESTON JUNE 29
The top prosecutor for Richland and Kershaw counties has been arrested for driving under the influence, according to authorities in Charleston.
Fifth Circuit Solicitor Barney Giese was arrested on June 29 at about 11:30 p.m. after police saw him make an illegal left turn before driving the wrong way down a one-way street.
An incident report showed that Giese, first elected in 1994, failed three out of four field sobriety tests and declined to take a breathalizer test.
He was able to pass an alphabet test, but when the officer asked if he would have problems doing a “one-leg-stand” test, Giese said he had a problem with his left hip while pointing to his right hip.
“We are looking forward to resolving this matter as soon as possible,” Giese said in a written statement late Tuesday. “It would be inappropriate for me to comment on this incident except to say that I am consulting with my attorney and law enforcement to determine the best resolution of this matter.”
Giese said he would continue to serve as solicitor and had no plans to step down.
They should make him resign his job. Seems hypocritical for him to be prosecuting DUI’s from now on.
He is a Democrat. No one of substance in that party consider even consider asking him to resign.
We in the GOP are hypocrites…they are bums with out shame.
