PARTY ISSUES REPRIMAND, DOES NOT CALL FOR RESIGNATION

South Carolina’s downtrodden Republican governor came very close to being a man without a party Monday night.

After a nearly four-hour teleconference call, the South Carolina Republican Party and Chairman Karen Floyd chose to censure Gov. Mark Sanford for “demonstrating repeated failures to act in accordance with … core [Republican] principles and beliefs” and “breaching the public’s trust and confidence.”

But the party stopped short of calling on Sanford to resign, something the governor said he appreciated.

“The events of the past two weeks have been as divisive as they have been disappointing for Republicans,” Floyd said, referring to the governor’s recent disappearance and revelations of an Argentinian affair. “But today has brought a large measure of resolution to a sad chapter in our State Party’s history.”

The formal reprimand came after four rounds of emotional voting in which members of the SCGOP executive committee made their case for or against Sanford.

In the end, 22 voted to censure Sanford, 10 thought he should resign, and nine supported no action against the governor.

The party’s admonishment of Sanford has no legal ramifications but gives Republicans an opportunity to express their concern over the governor’s conduct.

Added Floyd, “Now is the time for healing for the Sanford family. Now is the time for healing for the Republican Party. And now is the time for healing for our great State.”

Last week, Floyd released a pair of statements suggesting that Sanford should step down. But she made it clear Monday that the party had spoken and it was time to move on.

“The task ahead of us is tall. But as Ronald Reagan said, the best days are ahead of us,” Floyd said. “We are now united and we pledge to focus our energy and efforts on finding conservative solutions to the challenges facing South Carolina.”

Read the text of the censure resolution passed by the State Executive Committee:

Whereas, the South Carolina Republican Party adopts this Resolution of Censure as a unified expression of the Party’s opinion in the recent matter relating to Governor Marshall Clement Sanford, Jr.; and

Whereas, the South Carolina Republican Party adheres to a set of core principles and beliefs, primarily but not exclusively expressed in our Platform; and

Whereas, the revelations regarding Governor Sanford’s private and public conduct demonstrate repeated failures to act in accordance with these core principles and beliefs; and

Whereas, Governor Sanford’s conduct, in addition to falling below the standards expected of Republican elected officials, has breached the public’s trust and confidence in his ability to effectively perform the duties of his office; and

Whereas, a formal admonishment by the South Carolina Republican Party is appropriate and necessary and, barring further revelations, will be the Party’s last word on the matter;

Therefore, be it resolved, that the South Carolina Republican Party does, with great regret, censure Governor Mark Sanford for his recent conduct.

He owes no apology. He just needs to return Bill’s playbook to it’s rightful owner. Bill wrote this book, period.

Republican Party reprimanded Sanfraud for secretly leaving the state to visit his lover in Argentina.

Two weeks ago, Sanfraud’s whereabouts became a high-profile mystery as his staff struggled to explain the governor’s absence. Sanford turned off both his private cell phone and state-issued cell phone for days. It later was revealed Sanford went on a secret trip to Buenos Aires to visit his lover.

Sanfraud was not in regular communication with his staff and did not turn over power to the lieutenant governor while he was gone. He did not respond to text messages or voice messages left by law enforcement officials.

Sanford has said he misled his staff to believe he was hiking the Appalachian Trail.

Sir, did you plan a trip out of the country for ten days and not tell anyone where you were going? uh uh uh …that was my fault … uh uh uh …wait let me finish…

Sir, upon your return from Argentina, did you lie about all the facts and circumstances surrounding your trip? …uh uh uh …That was my fault …uh uh uh …wait let me finish…

Sir, how long has this been going on? uh uh uh …three times, no wait, I think it’s more like five times, no wait …I think it’s seven times …oh oh oh …no, it’ really been eight years … WAIT, in 1995, there was that trip to Chile, don’t forget about that one …that would make it about fourteen years.

Sir, is that everything? YEP, that’s all of it!

Sir, when do plan to stop lying about all of this? uh uh uh … If you guys stop asking me questions …uh uh uh …well …then, I’ll stop lying to you. BTW, you will never be able to pin anything on me. Catch me if you can, and by the way …uh uh uh …I still have frequent flier miles left ….hahahahaheheheheh …. ¡Adios Amigos! …arrivederci !!!! see ya South of the Border …you bunch of peckerheads, who needs ya anyway.

This action is fair, and appropriate. While I have been a long-time Sanford supporter, I think this is the most appropriate response I have seen to his recent actions.

Of course, I’m shocked that the SC legislature could commit such an appropriate act.

As I asked FITS, do you know how each member voted?
In an age of transparency, I think that we should know.
    Please advise.

…”voted to censure Lovenator Sanfraud for his “repeated failures” to act according to the party’s core principles and said he breached the public’s trust”…

Sanfraud, who has repeatedly maintained that he won’t resign, said he “fully appreciates” the party’s position and he “intends to work diligently to earn back its trust.”

I, uh uh uh, appreciate uh uh uh …wait …I uh uh uh …fully appreciate …I fully appreciate the party’s position and uh uh uh …I intend to earn … uh uh uh …your trust …yep, that’s it …your trust. Trust me.

COLUMBIA — Gov. Mark Sanford’s first weekly schedule — issued as part of his office’s reaction to his five-day disappearance to Argentina and admission of an extramarital affair — includes no public events.

Sanford will be splitting his time between Columbia and his family home on Sullivan’s Island, according to the schedule.

How are you really ever going to know where the heck the Lovenator is? Really?

Sir, what is your schedule again? uh uh uh …well ….uh uh uh …I’m splitting my time …uh uh uh …

Sir, where are you going to be? uh uh uh ….I’m splitting my time …uh uh uh …

Sir, what does that mean? uh uh uh …you mean the splitting part …oh oh oh …I see what your asking …uh uh uh …well, what that really means is that you are really never going to know where I am …hahahahaheheheheheh …catch me if you can, you fools.

Governor says soulmate is not his wife; keeps his job

“Things were calming down for Gov. Mark Sanford early last week. There were only a smattering of opportunistic calls for his resignation. Argentinian tan lines and “hiking trips” were heading off the front page.”

“Then, in an apparent attempt to really come clean and put this whole mess behind him, Sanford gave another rambling, wounded-heart interview, professing his love for his mistress while promising to try to warm up to the old ball and chain.”

“Contradicting his remarks from the earlier press conference, Sanford said he’d “crossed the line” with a handful of other women before meeting Argentinian Maria Belen Chapur, whom he tearfully called his soulmate.”

“This was a whole lot more than a simple affair,” he said. “It’s a love story … a forbidden one, a tragic one, but a love story at the end of the day.”

Sanfraud has “promised to repay the state more than $8,000 for that leg of the trip.” of the so-called “South American trade mission.”

“A Statehouse rally to call for his resignation is planned for Thurs., July 9.”

Sanfraud “offered a different tune when responding to other politicians’ sex scandals, even after he was privately “crossing the line” with other women.”

In 1998, regarding the Clinton scandal, Sanfraud said: “I don’t know how that could be good for anybody,” he told The Post and Courier. “I don’t think it’s good to have anyone who’s wounded in that high an office.”

“You would set in place an awfully cancerous growth if you let people out there think, ‘I know the president lies so I can too,’” Sanford told the Associated Press.

Sanfraud further said: “The issue of lying is probably the biggest harm, if you will, to the system of Democratic government, representative government, because it undermines trust,” he said. “And if you undermine trust in our system, you undermine everything.”

“What these guys start thinking is they’re above the law. You saw it with the president,” Sanfraud said.

Ho hum, bad boy don’t do it again. Show some guts. Either call for his resignation or say nothing. This sort of namby pamby “decision making” reminds one of the legislature and its frequent screw-ups.

South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford connived to have a team of state employees and U.S. Embassy officials set up trade-related meetings for him in Buenos Aires and then insisted on a “light schedule” while he was there. Sanford admits seeing his mistress during the trip.

Sanford decided to accompany his state’s Brazil trade delegation for some dove hunting in Argentina’s countryside. He then parlayed that into a trip to Buenos Aires, making sure he would have plenty of free time there. His itinerary for June 27, 2008 stated that he would do “self-guided sightseeing”. That turned out to be a euphemism for spending the day with his girlfriend.

Sir, what kind of “self-guided sightseeing” did you plan on doing? …uh uh uh well, I planned to see her tan lines,I love to see the curves of her hips, the erotic beauty of her holding herself (or two magnificent parts of herself) in the faded glow of night’s light.

Sir, that’s interesting, what does that have to do with sightseeing? uh uh uh …but hey, that would be going into the sexual details we spoke of at the steakhouse at dinner — and unlike you I would never do that!

Sir, how in the world did this lightening strike sneak up on you? uh uh uh …she tantalized me with sexual details over the years! uh uh uh …wait let me finish… and I hope this will last till death…

Sir, what about the Trade Mission? Why didn’t you do the Trade Mission? uh uh uh well my head, my heart cries out for her, her voice, her body, the touch of her lips, the touch of her finger tips and an even deeper connection to her soul …uh uh uh …you know, this kinda thing happens when you have two pathetic figures missing each other far too much living a few thousand miles apart!

Sir, this all sounds complicated, let’s get back to the trade mission, what about the trade mission? oh oh oh …she is glorious and I hope you really understand that ….she is special and unique and fabulous in a whole host of ways that are worth a much longer conversation, but I’ve been having a few email problems as I am getting email through an aircard at the farm, where access to computer world is more than tough, it’s tough with that aircard at the farm in Beaufort.

Aircard? Sir …Sir …lets focus on the trade mission? uh uh uh …wait …let me finish …As I mentioned in our last visit, while I did not need love fifteen years ago — as the battle scars of life and aging and politics have worn on me this has become a real need of mine.

Sir, you did not need love fifteen years ago? WOW!, how did you do that? uh uh uh well …I’m really not sure, but this has become a real need of mine now …I need it now! I really need it now!
