SLED INVESTIGATION CLEARS GOVERNOR OF CLAIMS HE IMPROPERLY USED STATE FUNDS

A State Law Enforcement Division investigation has cleared Gov. Mark Sanford of charges that he improperly used state funds to pursue an affair with an Argentine mistress.

SLED Chief Reggie Lloyd Thursday said doing the review with such little evidence of wrongdoing was “pretty dangerous territory” and that the governor “was on a legitimate business trip. What he did on his own private time does not require him to pay back anything.”

One trip in particular, a June 2008 visit to Argentina, was heavily criticized after Sanford admitted it was when he began the affair with Maria Belen Chapur.

Lloyd said Sanford fully cooperated with SLED, providing personal financial records including credit card receipts for the expenses incurred for his transportation and lodging on the trips to South America and New York.

Sanford, who is leaving for Florida to spend the holiday weekend with his family, also reiterated that he would not be resigning.

The governor’s spokesman Joel Sawyer said he was “pleased that SLED has concluded its review, which confirms what we’ve said from day one: no public money was used in relation to the governor’s admitted marital infidelity. This issue is behind us once and for all.”

Sawyer provided The Palmetto Scoop copies of the controversial governor’s personal travel records. You can see those items here, here and here.

Sanford’s wife Jenny, meanwhile, said she is willing to forgive her husband.

“There is no question that Mark’s behavior is inexcusable,” Jenny Sanford said in a statement Thursday, he first public remarks in two days. “Actions have consequences and he will be dealing with those consequences for a long while.

“The real issue now is one of forgiveness. I am willing to forgive Mark for his actions. My forgiveness is essential for us both to move on with our lives, with peace, in whatever direction that may take us.”

    Sanford’s mental state questioned

While mental health experts …their observations of his behavior suggest a chemical imbalance, narcissism and impulsive behavior.

“That’s a troubled man,” said Sen. Harvey Peeler, R-Cherokee, …“You can see it in his eyes and his body language. I’m concerned about his mental well-being.”

“The idea that he could carry on this relationship and at the same time be governor, run the Republican governor’s association and have presidential aspirations, it shows an individual who has lost contact with reality,” said Crangle, who has worked as a divorce lawyer. “He sees no limitations. He can do what he wants.”

State Sen. John Land, D-Clarendon, said he thinks Sanfords’ issues go deeper. He described Sanford as narcissistic.

“He seems to revel in and enjoy these intimate details as if his love affair was the most perfect one,” Land said. “If the rest of us did this, it would be a second-rate love affair. He’s not in touch with reality.”

Jerome H. Hanley, a board-certified clinical psychologist in Columbia, said Sanford’s problems appear to run deep — trauma, depression, narcissism.

“There are so many times that he has left himself open to question his judgment,” he said.

South Carolina is in a crisis. The Governor lied about leaving the country with his phones turned off. He stated he took these liason trips before, but he obviously left his phone on. His wife didn’t say separated when the media FIRST contacted her. She is forgiving the man with a ” soul mate”.
Meanwhile, I highly suggest checking the state retirement system.

Did you know that the financial crisis has endangered the Jacksonville Firefighters and Police retirement funds, the Indiana State retirement system and the Michigan State Retirement system.

Did you hear Sanford say he wanted to ” shore up the retirement system” after he lost the stimulus battle, maybe because he kept saying ” paying off debt” versus ” shore up retirement”.
Did he not want somebody to know something>?????

PLEASE CHECK IT> ( NO I AM NOT A MEMBER)

So much gossip and so many lies by people not willing to place their name on the record.

Reggie Lloyd has stepped up, made a determination, and signed his name…that is worth 1000 devious posters and their lies.

Of course it won’t stop those looking to make thier petty points. Sin is always ready to be front and center.
