WXRY TO ATTEMPT TO BREAK WORLD RECORD FOR DANCE… ON INDEPENDENCE DAY

Columbia’s self-billed “Independent Alternative” station is taking the Independence Day weekend to be, well, alternative.

While most Americans will spend Saturday outside grilling hot dogs, drinking beer, and honoring the greatest country on earth, WXRY will be trying to set the world record for the largest group of people doing the “Time Warp” dance.

The dance, made famous in the 1975 British musical comedy “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” is a fairly simple dance that the station says is “crazy ridiculous fun.”

The record-breaking attempt will take place Saturday at the Trustus Theatre, 520 Lady Street in the Vista. Registration starts at 4:30 p.m. and goes until 6:15 p.m. with the record attempt at 6:45 p.m.

Of course, competing with a major holiday weekend will make achieving the attempt extremely difficult. But I wish them the best.
