BAUER CAMP CAUGHT PUSHING CALLS FOR SANFORD RESIGNATION
In the bitter, dirty world of South Carolina politics, there’s one man who has never been afraid to go after an opponent when it is advantageous: Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer. The only problem is, he’s often a little careless about covering his tracks.
And so it was this weekend when Bauer’s out-of-state consultant Chris LaCivita was busted trying to orchestrate pressure to force Gov. Mark Sanford’s resignation.
Bauer’s move came after the governor admitted he had left South Carolina for five days to pursue an extramarital affair with a woman from Argentina. Sensing an opportunity to take over for Sanford, Bauer and company moved quickly behind the scenes to launch a coup.
The New York Times has published an email from LaCivita to a GOP activist pleading for him to encourage Sanford’s resignation.
“André Bauer is my client; I’ve been working this since Monday,” wrote LaCivita. “I need to get this guy (Sanford) out.”
LaCivita told The Times “this is me professionally seeking information and sources from people I thought I could trust.”
But the email confirmed what many were suspecting: That Bauer was taking advantage of a sad situation to maneuver himself into the governor’s mansion ahead of next June’s primary.
This, despite Bauer’s very public statement Saturday that “Nobody wants to become governor like this.”

Bauer needed some big boy underpants, eh?! Figures.
Bauer is a no good creep.
Isn’t LaCivita connected to Howard Rich?
i liked th guy and was undecided but this is pathetic. I thought he was better than this. wow. sc deserves more
Dog bites man. Yawn.
What a bum. Man, how can they look the people in the eye and lie like this?
Is it me or does Andre look like Ahmedinijihad with no tie and the “Sonny Crockett/Hawkeye Pierce” five o’clock shadow?
It is the sad state of the Republican party these days. All the leaders are looking out for themselves. I don’t see Andre doing anything his rivals are not. He wants him out because it puts him in a better position for the primary. McMaster, wants him to stay in office because that is better for him, so he his saying nothing, and apparently has no plans to investigate whether Sanford has broken state law, which he probably has.
All of the candidates are refusing to even discuss the fact that Sanford is a liar who intentionally attempted to mislead the people of SC. To me this alone is enough to demand his resignation.
Had he fessed up to his affair immediately I would say, this is his personal business. But instead he made up an escalating series of lies designed to cover up his actions, and now that he has been caught in his on web of deceit he wants to force the the rest of us to listen to his I sorrys, I’m bad, please, please forgive me, can’t we all just get on with our lives, speeches for the next 18 months. When we all know he is only sorry he was caught.
Adam:
We need to look at Economic Development and job creation. As I travel doing my job, SC has missed out on some very large opportunities.
The current political distraction is not helping. Would you trust the current administration for economic assistance to open a new investment in SC?
We cannot wait 18 months. Otherwise, we could be even worse.
Rick Beltram
What are South Carolina’s choices?
a) We throw out the current Gov. & put in one equally (if not more) devious.
b) Elect tax & spend Dems (aka: Soviets in disguise).
c) Or we could all sit back and wait for the perfect ‘Mr. Clean’ to come along to lead the State.
What will it be folks?
Rick – why do companies choose a particular state? Why are we missing out on the “opportunities” you’ve seen?
Companies choose a state because it offers either:
1) a competitive advantage over another state (including corporate tax rates and incentives that currently in SC are disparately applied and given to the highest political bidder)
2) better quality of life for workers/management (our personal, marginal income tax rate is among the highest in the southeast..but we do have nice weather and beaches)
3) a highly educated workforce (which we don’t have – no matter how you want to dice it)
4) natural resources (of which we have plenty – but there’s too much red tape)
SC Commerce has done a pretty good job given how the deck is stacked against real economic development in SC.
The real solution is fixing our broken tax code and cutting the red tape at state agencies. Those solutions begin and end with a legislative branch that controls 80% of the executive branch. Surely, if they put their minds to it, they could solve our problems.
Hear! Hear! to Rick Beltram’s comments. We can’t afford to spend the next 18 months unwitting participants in a Mark Sanford reality show.
Just when you think nothing can get worse…Rick Beltram rears his fat head.
Oh my pete.
Guys:
When I moved here with my firm, the upfront committments from the Governor were/are very important. Without those incentives, the other items are moot.
Rick Beltram
all i am going to say is this is how gay bitches fight. In the closet and down in dirty with their claws sharpened. This is going to be really nasty before it cleans itself up and then once it cleans up…it’s going to get nasty all over again.
Rick Beltram: we are hearing that you and Jeffrey Sewell are lending your so-called “expertise” to the Bauer outfit to promote him. That is the rumors on the street among politicos.
Like all good conservatives, Beltram took tax dollars to make a business decision. Puke.
Beltram and Sewell and Bauer. Double Puke.
There are more things to this than what is mentioned here.
Sanford’s trip was about M O N E Y
pure and simple.
Nothing in politics is unplanned.

Mark Sanford’s claim to be like King David is laughable And insane. Only if you know your Bible will you realize that “King” Mark has no regret for what he did. He chose evil over good. I wonder if the good Christians of South Carolina really understand just how much wool “King” Mark is trying to pull over their eyes.
I don’t defend President Clinton or his actions at all twelve years ago, but what “King” Mark did outdoes the crimes of Clinton doublefold. And makes “King” Mark a huge hypocrite when he was standing slamming Clinton and calling for his resignation.
Sneaking to a tryst of a lover without a single person knowing, when you are the highest official of the state, is at the very least utterly disgraceful.
South Carolina, shake off this evil now. Remember what Jesus said about knowing people by their actions. Actions speak much louder than any word.
