MORE THAN 41,000 POUNDS OF SC MEAT RECALLED

Federal officials have recalled more than 41,000 pounds of beef products distributed and sold in South Carolina over fear that they may be contaminated with the E. coli bacteria.

JBS Swift Beef Co. of Greeley, Colo. products after testing came back positive that some of the meat may have been tainted by E. coli.

It is not known which grocery store chains sold the meat, but the U.S. Department of Agriculture said the products were produced April 21-22 and shipped to various distributors and retailers in South Carolina and more than a dozen other states.

E. Coli is a bacteria that can cause diarrhea, dehydration and kidney failure and can be deadly. Consumers with questions can call the company at (800) 555-7675.
