SANFORD’S LOVER ADMITS AFFAIR, SAYS HACKER RESPONSIBLE FOR LEAKING EMAILS
The 41-year-old woman at the middle of the controversy surrounding Mark Sanford’s extramarital activities has made her first public statement since news broke that the governor had left office for five days to pursue the affair.
Maria Belen Chapur acknowledged her relationship with Sanford and said that the widely published, provocative emails between the two were obtained by a hacker.
The e-mails, which were published by The State newspaper Thursday, added depth to the affair between Sanford and Chapur.
“[W]e are in a hopelessly — or as you put it impossible — or how about combine and simply say hopelessly impossible situation of love,” Sanford wrote in one email. “How in the world this lightening strike snuck up on us I am still not quite sure.”
In her 200-word statement to news network C5n of Buenos Aires, Chapur denied that the alleged hacker was a friend of hers, but said she had an idea who it might be. She said will not identify the person because she lacks proof and for legal reasons.
“Maria Belen Chapur reportedly got to know S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford through online chatting in 2001.”

Maria Belen Chapur, lives in an upscale apartment building next to the Buenos Aires Zoo, in a trendy neighborhood that is also near the US Embassy.
A witness who works in the building described her to Buenos Aires Continental Radio as a beautiful brunette with big eyes who plays tennis on a nearby lawn and runs every morning in her neighborhood.
The witness told the radio station that someone matching Sanford’s description arrived at the complex, alone, with a small sports bag last week and asked to go inside the building.
The news site also reported that she worked for an agribusiness company called Bunge, but that appears to be incorrect. According to their lovesick emails that were given to South Carolina’s State newspaper, Shapur also makes semi-regular trips to New York City, the Daily News reports.
Celebrity gossip website TMZ quoted Buenos Aires bar owner Carlos Soto as saying he saw the governor and his mistress last week.
He said they were “all over each over” in his Italian bar and restaurant, “kissing, holding hands and drinking wine.” Soto said Maria has green eyes, dirty blonde hair and an impressive figure.

One of the Governor’s trips to Argentina was paid for by the people of SC. While allegedly a Trade visit, the United States (under the Bush administration) had ended trade development efforts with Argentine because the defaulted on US loans. It was, at the time, according to the official policy of a Republican administration led by a Republican President supported by a Republican Senate, not to pursue further trade projects with Argentina, which the US usually funds. This was not resisting the decisions of Barack Obama. The economy of Argentina is apparently in the tank. They don’t have any jobs to send SC. Perhaps the Governor was hoping to send some more of our remaining textile and manufacturing jobs to Argentina. Or perhaps our Governor was thinking about something else.

Governor Mark Sanford booked 10-day getaway
Mark Sanford booked the trip on Delta Air Lines on June 10, using the company’s SkyMiles program, the source said. He bought a ticket for June 18, returning June 28.
The bookings also cast light on the governor’s recklessness, and his belief, or hope, that he could vanish from the state for well over a week without raising questions about his absence.

In June 2008, a relationship that started out innocently and in Mark Sanford’s words, “developed into something much more than that.”
That month, Sanford traveled to Brazil on a state trade mission. He managed to build in a side trip to Buenos Aires.
The governor’s agenda includes hours of “personal time” and two dinners where he advises others to have “dinner on your own.” Receipts show he listed no other state officials joining him at El Faro restaurant and el Mosto wine bar – both in the Hilton Buenos Aires, where he stayed for three nights that weekend.
