EMISSIONS CAP COULD RAISE TAXES, COST JOBS
The U.S. House Republican Caucus is taking Democrats to task for a policy that they say will kill economic growth, force small businesses to pay higher energy bills and cost jobs.
“In a time of economic uncertainty, when unemployment is nearing 10 percent and spending by the President and Democrats is out of control, what is Speaker Pelosi’s number one priority?” the ad says. “Creating a national energy tax. They call it cap and trade, we call it cap and tax.”
In the 80 second web ad, the House GOP used a clip of President Obama saying energy taxes would “necessarily skyrocket” under his Cap and Trade plan.
The plan calls for limiting gas emissions by issuing expensive permits limiting the amount of greenhouse gases companies can put out. The cost, of course, would inevitably be passed on to the consumer.
Ironically, the most vocal proponent of the plan in South Carolina has been Republican Congressman Bob Inglis.
