GOVERNOR SAYS HE WAS IN ARGENTINA, NOT ON APPALACHIAN TRAIL

South Carolina’s missing governor was tracked down at the Atlanta airport early Wednesday morning by The State newspaper. And, in a twist that only deepens the mystery of his days-long disappearance, Mark Sanford said he was returning from Argentina.
That’s right, Argentina. Not the Appalachain Trail, as was previously stated from Sanford’s office.
Sanford’s explanation? The governor said he was going to hike the Appalachian Trail, “But I said ‘no’ I wanted to do something exotic.”
The governor was also adamant that he was alone on the trip, repeating that statement numerous times.
Well, Argentina is quite exotic. But why Argentina? And why the lie about the Appalachian Trail from te governor’s press shop?
All of this coupled with the fact that Sanford’s SUV was found at the Columbia airport Tuesday evening.

UPDATE: Sanford’s former spokesman Bill Folks has just written on his blog, “Never again will we refrain from going with our instincts. The governor’s office flat out lied to us.” Folks said he knew about the Argentina trip but didn’t report about it.

UPDATE 2: Sanford will be holding at press conference at his Statehouse office today at 2 p.m. This should be VERY interesting. If I were the governor and/or his handlers, I would tell the truth — no matter how embarrassing. Any further lying is only going to make matters worse.

UPDATE 3: FOX News host Glenn Beck asked Sen. Jim DeMint to “vouch” for Sanford’s character and DeMint refused to do so:
BECK: Can you vouch for his character, that he is what he seems to be?
DEMINT: He always has been up front with me, but, you know, who knows? I don’t know if we can vouch for each other’s character, but he is a good friend of mine and obviously I hope he is okay.

UPDATE 4: According to the Wall Street Journal, Argentina’s Peso dropped significantly Tuesday. I wonder if it had anything to do with Sanford’s “getaway” there?

UPDATE 9: Bombshell… Gov. Mark Sanford has admitted to having an affair with an Argentinian woman.
So, who moved his SUV to the Columbia airport. I don’t believe he actually flew out of Columbia — too many people on the flight would’ve known who he was and spoken up by now. Impossible. He must have driven to Atlanta and flown from there to Argentina. They likely had someone move the car to Columbia’s airport in an effort to throw the media off of the Atlanta airport thinking he could return undetected allowing them to stick with the “hiking” story — which ALMOST worked.
