GLOVER PULLS OFF SHOCKING UPSET TO TAKE FIRST MAJOR

A Greenville man pulled off a shocking upset Monday to win the 109th U.S. Open Championship.

With more than 24,000 fans looking on, Lucas Glover knocked in a 3-foot par putt on the 18th hole at the Bethpage Black Course in Farmingdale, NY to win the Major Championship — the first of his career.

“I just looked at the scoreboard to make sure this was really happening,” Glover told ESPN. “The putt was all you could ever ask for under pressure.”

Glover edged out Phil Mickelson and a loaded field of big names to claim the victory after five rain-soaked days in Farmingdale.

In three previous attempts, the 29-year-old Clemson graduate was unable to even make the cut at the U.S. Open. But Monday, that was just a distant memory.

Glover’s only other PGA win was the 2005 FUNAI Classic at the Walt Disney World Resort.
