CAVE FUNERAL SERVICES OF ALLENDALE ALLEGEDLY TOOK GRUESOME MEASURES TO FIT 6′7″ MAN INTO COFFIN
The Allendale County funeral home that allegedly severed the legs of a man too tall to fit into his coffin has been closed by South Carolina officials.
The State Board of Funeral Service has revoked the licenses of Cave Funeral Services and its director, Michael Cave, after a criminal investigation into whether or not 6-foot, 7-inch James Hines went through a gruesome postmortem surgery to remove his legs.
According a document released by the South Carolina Department Of Labor and Licensing, a funeral home employee used an electric saw to cut off James Hines’ lower legs so he would fit in a casket that he was too tall for.
The body of James Hines was exhumed back in March after investigators acted on a tip that Hines legs were cut off in 2004 when he was buried.
The family requested a larger casket [... but] former employee of Cave Funeral Services says Hines was too tall for the casket he paid for before his death and said the funeral home didn’t want to pay for a larger casket. [WAGT]
Look… I know times are financially difficult, but really? He didn’t buy a big enough coffin so they (allegedly) chopped off his legs?
No one at the funeral home thought that might be a little extreme? And how didn’t his family notice this?
All important questions… stay tuned for answers. Or not.
