SENATOR: ‘WISE LATINA WOMAN’ COMMENTS WERE TROUBLING, INAPPROPRIATE

South Carolina’s Senior U.S. Senator is demanding an apology from U.S. Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor over a comment she made that a “wise Latina woman” would reach better conclusions than a white man.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, who sits on the judiciary committee which will first take up the nomination, said on FOX News Sunday that the comment was “troubling and inappropriate” and called for a public apology from Sotomayor.

“If I had said something like that, or someone with my background and profile, we wouldn’t be talking about this nomination going forward,” Graham said. “But she’s got to prove to me that if I found myself in court with a Latina woman in front of her, I’d get a fair shake. And that’s up to her to do.”

Watch the entire segment:

As Graham pointed out, there’s really no defense of the comment. The best she can do is say she’s sorry and that she won’t rule that way as a Supreme Court justice.

But the Obama Administration is quickly defending their pick, brushing it off as a comment taken out of context.

And if that doesn’t work, then I would imagine they’ll just unleash the New Black Panthers on the Capitol.
