ATTORNEY GENERAL ON FNC: A FEW KEY STROKES COULD ELIMINATE MAJOR VEHICLE FOR PROSTITUTION
The Internet classified company Craigslist was given until 5 p.m. Friday to remove advertisements for prostitution and graphic pornographic material from its website or face possible charges in South Carolina. That deadline came and went with no action from Craigslist.
So at 5:01 p.m., Attorney General Henry McMaster announced that, “This content was not removed as we requested. We have no alternative but to move forward with criminal investigation and potential prosecution.”
And McMaster immediately followed up on the threat. Sheriff’s deputies in York County arrested at least three suspected Criagslist prostitutes Friday near the Carowinds amusement park.
McMaster told the FOX News Channel Saturday, “Craiglist, with just a few key strokes, can eliminate the major vehicle for prostitution advertisement in South Carolina.”
But Criaglist CEO Jim Buckmaster disagreed with McMaster and demanded an apology.
On his personal blog, Buckmaster took the approach that other companies offer similar services, so why aren’t they targeted?
McMaster responded to that assertion on FOX News by saying everyone who engages in the same illegal activities he alleges Craigslist is allowing is targeted equally in South Carolina.
Even so, last I checked, the fact that other people break the law isn’t exactly a valid defense for breaking the law.
Meanwhile, a Greenwood man has decided to start his own family-friendly alternative to Criaglist, JimBobsList.
“I’m out there to make a clean, rural version of Craigslist,” said Mark Timms.
Timms said the website won’t have listings for things like escort services which have caused the Craigslist controversy.

Glaringly absent from this story is the work-up that the Washington Post did on ol’ Henry. Guess it didn’t vibe well with the message Fogle wants to communicate…
Is this dribble supposed to be editorial or reporting?
Seems like there was once an AG in NY state that loved to grandstand. Whatever happened to him?
Good Job, Adam. Keep reporting the truth!

Thanks for the catch Mab… guess you’re hired as the new moderator around here.
The job pays nothing and everyone hates you. Congratulations.
As for MacSir, he’ll be getting a knock on his door any minute.
Adam,
I couldn’t handle it. Y’all would get complaints out the wazoo. Affability with people who disagree with me is not a strength.
You go with it!
It’s probably time to get after the telephone companies, and those naughty telegraph operators as well.
I’m afraid TechCrunch has it right. We’re a laughing stock.
