CHAIRMAN CONTINUES TO PUT FOOT IN MOUTH

Since being elected the head of the Republican National Committee, Michael Steele has been an absolute trainwreck for conservatives looking to rebuild the party.

One bad move after another has plagued Steele’s chairmanship. From going after popular conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh to telling GQ magazine that women have a “right to choose abortion,” Steele has managed to piss off nearly the entire GOP.

And Friday, Steele — the first black RNC chairman — added fuel to the fire by going on Bill Bennett’s radio program and agreeing that President Barack Obama is “the magic negro.”

During a call-in discussing Obama’s 100-days press conference, a caller said, “That was truly an enchanting evening, wasn’t it? It’s just like the LA Times said last year or two years ago, he is ‘the magic negro.’”

Steele laughed and responded, “Well, yeah.”

The “magic negro” phrase, which began with a 2007 Los Angeles Times guest editorial, played a significant role in this year’s RNC chairman’s race.

Candidate Chip Saltsman sent a Christmas greeting to RNC members containing a song titled “Barack the Magic Negro.” At the time, Steele slammed Saltsman for “reinforcing a negative stereotype of the party.”

I would like to take a survey of the 91 RNC members who voted for Steele on the final ballot of the January election over SCGOP Chair Katon Dawson. I’m just curious as to how many regret their vote.
