GOVERNOR: EASY THING ISN’T ALWAYS RIGHT THING
Gov. Mark Sanford is taking this message to the people: South Carolina doesn’t need $700 million in federal stimulus money.
“The easy thing would be to accept money handed out from Washington,” Sanford said in a new 60-second ad by Carolinians for Reform which will reportedly air on local television. “But the easy thing isn’t always the right thing.”
Sanford has gained significant national attention for his stance against accepting the money.
Last week Sanford signed a certification acknowledging that South Carolina needed the cash, but continued to assert that he would not apply for it unless the General Assembly cut $350 million in state government waste from this year’s budget for use in paying down debt.
“Many families are struggling with challenges we’ve not seen in our lifetimes,” said Sanford in the ad. “Some say the solution lies in more government spending and deeper debt. The truth is, more tax dollars will be spent in our state this year than ever before.”
Sanford continued, “But there must be a stopping point. Going further into debt will not solve a problem that was created by too much debt. There must be a price that we will not impose on future generations.”
The ad buy reportedly cost nearly $300,000, which means you expect to see it at least a few times in the coming days and weeks.
For those looking for a solution from Sanford on the stimulus issue, he offered it in the ad.
“We’ve proposed a budget that responsibly addresses our state’s critical needs without more debt,” Sanford said. “To get there, we have to finally restructure the broken ways our government operates.”

He can suck a **** [edited for vulgarity]
Watch the con-artist at work.

I might be confused, but even if SC doesn’t accept the Federal Money, won’t South Carolinians still be responsible for paying for it through their Federal taxes?
If we don’t take the money, it will go elsewhere and we will still have to pay for it. That doesn’t make sense.
Adam, not sure about how you feel but we are considering zero anon comments. If the losers do not have the conviction to put there names on the post then well…
Good Job Mark!
Who does Mark want to write a check to exactly? Can we please get the name of the corporation, person, business that we owe our entire stimulus too please?
And why hasn’t anyone asked yet????

The Cashier check will be writen on the first Bank of Panama and cash at ” Instant Paycashing Service” located on the island of Cuba. [ Havana Branch] The check will be redeemed in Gold and Silver products instead of normal paper currency which is worthless at the moment due to the Obama stilumlus program. Don’t you feel better now since Inquiring Minds has given you a answer to this Republican retarded mind-set issue. Have a nice day and remember to bend over and kiss your funny money butt goodbye in about 9 months.
K. Auld-
If you take out a debt consolidation loan at least some of your debt is reduced- which is what the governor wants to do with less than 10% of the “stimulus” money. This is good for two reasons: first, we will be able to reduce debt service that our state tax dollars go to now. We will be, in essence, making an “extra payment” so that the interest that is accrued is reduced.
Second, we will have kept the recurring items in the state budget from unrealistically increasing due to the artificial influx of cash when state revenues aren’t predicted to be better next year. This has to happen if we are really going to have budget stabilization.
We really can’t have our cake and eat it too.
Obama and his gang are trying everything they know how to do to get SC hooked on his drugs. Thank God that Sanford is not susceptable to the needle.
What do you expect from a man who had absolutely NO PRIOR military experience and then MYSTERIOUSLY got an officer’s commission. because he said he wanted to set an example for his sons. Then when the shit hit the fan and his unit was scheduled for deployment to the war zone he said that because he was the governor of SC he could not be deployed.
Well……I have pulled 3 deployments to the war zone since 2002 and that lying bag of shit never had the balls to go over once.
He still pulls some kind of duty once a month and even commented on some state matters when he was on active duty last month to the media. IMHO that is a direct violation of any military member from making political statements or performing political duties while on duty. The coward gets a check for pulling monthly duty is some office while some of his reserve unit in Charleston have pulled numerous deployments in the war zone while he makes political statements while wearing the uniform of an United States Air Force Officer.
He is a disgrace to the uniform and should resign.
Some example he is to his sons. Unfortunately they will probably never know the truth.
Fat chance this blog will have the guts to inform the fans of that coward Sanford the real truth.
Citizens Arrest x 3! On YOU, Will.
1. …then when the sh*t hit the fan…
2. …and that lying bag of sh*t never had the b*lls to…
Gutting and informing YOU!
Everything I posted is the truth. Just research it.
See if I’m not right.
He got out of the reserve Air Force unit in Charleston,SC and is now pulling duty behind a desk for Homeland Security.
He draws a monthly drill check & two weeks duty a year here in the states while his old unit has been deployed numerous times.
Oh! I was just on Profanity Patrol as I volunteered to do if the boys here would let me into their club to post comments.
I don’t know much about military stuff! Carry on…
It boils down to this:
1. Sanford should either resign his commission
OR
2. He should volunteer for the next deployment in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Actions speak louder than words. He used his political influence to get a commission and then shirked his duty by weaseling out of deploying.
Obviously I don’t have much respect for him at all.
Mab’s Easter Message…
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

The respect of the Governor is the beginning of him getting his way, which is for your own good.
Finaly, someone with the testicle fortitude to just say NO!
There is no such thing as a free lunch, Governor Sanford you are right.
Sanford challenged on stimulus
COLUMBIA — The South Carolina Supreme Court was asked Thursday to decide who controls federal stimulus funds that Gov. Mark Sanford has refused to request.
The petition in the name of an 18-year-old Chapin High School student was filed by Columbia lawyers Dwight Drake and Dick Harpootlian.
Sanford has said he won’t request $350 million in federal stimulus cash unless it is used to reduce state debt.
The Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough law firm said its action asks the high court to decide the issues without a lower court hearing arguments first. It’s an attempt to get the court to declare that the state Legislature has the responsibility for deciding how the money is spent.
“We feel this is an important issue for the school children of South Carolina and it needs to be decided quickly,” Drake said.
