GOVERNOR JOINS GINGRICH IN BACKING PREEMPTIVE STRIKE ON ROGUE NATION
The day after North Korea decided to defy the world and test long-range ballistic missiles, Gov. Mark Sanford said the United States should have taken action to stop the rogue regime.
Speaking on FOX News Sunday, Sanford agreed with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s plan to “take whatever preemptive actions are necessary,” including the use of electromagnetic pulse capabilities to destroy the missile before it left the launch pad.
“I would always defer to my former boss, if you will, as I was a pup freshman as he was speaker, on issues of foreign policy,” Sanford told host Chris Wallace when asked if he would have taken preemptive action. “But what I would say is in the countryside of South Carolina, at some point you’ve got to back up words with action.
“And as the speaker just pointed out, there have been a long series of missteps, intentional steps, on North Korea’s part and little in the way of action from the standpoint of either America or international community.”
Sanford criticized the lack of a forceful response from the Obama Administration, saying “there is something fundamentally wrong with an administration that says tough action, and a secretary of defense who says, ‘We absolutely have the capacity to shoot this thing down,’ and no action.”
Whether or not you agree with Sanford that a preemptive strike on North Korea would have been the right response, you have to agree that President Obama flubbed his first real foreign policy test.
Rather than acting as the decisive commander-in-chief of the most powerful military in the world, Obama instead passed the buck to the United Nations and whined that they should do something about the problem.
The president then went a step further and used the situation to further his idea of a nuclear-free world.
I’m not sure if Obama is just delusional or has just been spending too much time on his super-secret Utopian island where polar bears play checkers with sea lions and it rains chocolate from clouds filled with happiness and love.
Either way, we’re in some serious trouble when North Korea decides to: a. sell the technology to Iran, Saudi Arabia, Syria, or another lovely, friendly country; b. lob a missile with a nuclear warhead into the west coast.

Gov. Sanford said “at some point you have to back up words with action”. It sounds like something a drunk person would say before a bar fight.
Sanford will do or say just about anything to get his face on National TV…
Adam:
You are correct, we needed to take what ever military action necessary to stop that launch. Obama has been over in Europe playing buddy, buddy with the UN nations; But we don’t need the UN. We did not get any help from the UN in Iraq and did just fine. Obama does not know how to deal with the UN. Bush and Cheney knew how. You tell them what you are going to do; they are either with you or against you, and they don’t want to be against you. If they don’t go along, then ignor them.
We have the most powerful military, we don’t have to listen to the UN and we don’t need their consent or advice.

Jim,
I see no problem consulting the U.N., but as a leader, not a follower.
There’s a big difference between “please U.N., can you do this for us” and “we’re doing this, y’all should do the same.”

Waste of time. Just like Bush waisted time when he asked before invading Iraq. Cheney did not want him to. The only way they will fall in line is if they know we are in charge. We should have bombed that missle site.
We should have shown them what a real rocket can do. TEA’D
