“BUILDING ON TODAY’S SUCCESS” LOOKS TO MOVE PARTY FORWARD
The future of the South Carolina Republican Party hinges largely on its ability to adapt to new technology, become better organized, and build its base.
That’s according to Karen Floyd, who Friday will unveil the cornerstone of State GOP campaign — her “Building on Today’s Success” plan — to Republican activists.
The Palmetto Scoop has received an advance copy of the plan, which is posted below. It calls for expanding outreach, empowering county parties, building support & recruitment, embracing technology, increasing fundraising, and solidifying party operations.
In the largest section of Floyd’s plan, expanding outreach, she says she will, “implement RNC National Committeeman Glenn McCall’s ‘inclusion philosophy’ by encouraging those from diverse racial, ethnic and religious backgrounds to not only seek membership in our party, but to seek leadership as well.”
Among the groups Floyd wants the Party to reach out to are youth, non-traditional Republicans, like-minded organizations, business, the legislature, and unregistered potential voters.
Floyd also placed a significant emphasis on moving the SCGOP into the 21st Century by improving its use of technology. And that’s where she really stepped up her game.
She calls for the creation of an integrated website tailored to Executive Committee members and activists. She also will create a web template for county parties to become mobilized on the Internet.
Floyd’s technology plan also includes heavy marketing, data enhancement, and networking. She says the SCGOP needs an improved infrastructure and needs to do more with viral and social networking.
While the other aspects of Floyd’s plan are very important, I think achieving them is to a degree dependent on having a solid technology plan and powerful web presence. And her platform offers exactly that.
But, more than anything, Floyd’s plan is grassroots. For the SCGOP, nothing is more vital than that right now.

I missed the part where Floyd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Howard Rich, talked about using Howie’s money to take over your party. Oh wait, he already did that, and now he’s pulled his money. Damn, my bad.
I think there is an opening now for another candidate to get in as frontrunner. People are going to start hearing about how Karen was an active Democrat until 1998, the same year she was elected to county council as a Republican. She was a contributor to and supporter of Bill Clinton, Inez Tenenbaum, Glenn Reese, Fritz Hollings, and the DSCC. She even attended a DSCC fundraiser in DC as late as 1998. It’s amazing none of this has come out yet.
Yeesh. If Karen’s “web templates” look anything like her campaign site–or her the document featured above–you guys are screwed. How exactly do you lead the Party into the 21st Century when you’re still using Pagemaker and bitmap files? And that logo–wow. Looks like a FATZ server’s badge.
Seriously. THIS is the visionary you want leading the Party?
The best thing that Floyd can do is to tell South Carolina Republicans to get out of the party and head to Costa Rica…….
Her website is atrocious and looks like it was designed circa 1998. She can talk the talk…and for some reason you are agreeing, but she obviously is not walking the walk.
I’ve been hearing that Karen Floyd was a Democrat up until about ten years ago. A friend of mine in law school said that she used to work for Dick Harpootlian and she was a big contributor to the DNC. She apparently went with Harpootlian to some DNC fundraiser in DC with Bill Clinton. Does not sound like a conservative leader to me…
Folks, Let’s remember that our beloved Ronald Reagan was a Democrat for years. People do change and we should be thankful that Karen has seen the light. Its a miracle when one has the truth and that truth sets them free.
Hey Neil,
Reagan saw the light and figured out the Dems had “left him” back in the fifties… She needed to go through working with Harpo and supporting Bill Clinton as recently as 10 years ago to figure it out…AFTER Reagan was on the scene???
Please.
JimBo,
Just talked with Karen at our convention and she was never a Democrat. In fact, all of these comments made are false and untrue. She supported Beasley for Governor and did not support or fundraise for Bill Clinton or Tenenbaum. Check your facts. Also, Karen is a very good speaker and fundraiser and those are two important qualities to raise money for our Party especially to fight the good fight in 2010 when it appears Obama wants to take South Carolina and Louisiana and turn them into blue states and will spend, spend, spend to do it. Karen’s our gal that can raise money, rally the base, and use technology at the grass roots level to win elections.
Hi, Guys!
How about asking Her about “supporting Vouchers for school Choice”!
When camapigning for Dept od Ed She was very supportive! Wonder if she still is keen on them.
When Katon announced on Feb.7 that he was not going to seek relection I found someone who had Karen’s email address and asked her to run. As I found out later I was not alone. She would have made a great Supt. of Ed. but now she can use her expertise to get a full slate of candidates elected. I said it in 06 and will say it again: GO KAREN !! Where can I help?
great, we’re going to lose spartanburg again.
Clearly Warren Tompkins and friends can’t find another candidate so they choose to make up things about Karen. Get a life guys!
Neil–check public records. You will see Karen Floyd donated a lot of money to a variety of Democrats in the 1990’s including Clinton, Hollings, Tenenbaum, and Glenn Reese. She attended a DSCC fundraiser along with Dick Harpootlian in 1998 in Washington DC. Just saying that these are not lies–ask anyone who knew her prior to her being elected to county council in 1998 and they will tell you she was supporting Democrats.
Go to this site:
http://www.fec.gov/finance/disclosure/advindsea.shtml
Enter “Floyd, Karen” in the search field and press the “send query” button.
See for yourself how Karen K. Floyd, a resident of spartanburg SC has donated thousands of dollars to republican committees and candidates as far back as 1998, and that no contributions exist in FEC records before 1998.
I would advise other commentors to not make claims about “public records” which can be definatively falsified with a spare 5 minutes and a google search.
Thanks Bill.
Rachel = Owned.
Rachel,
Where can I find those records? If you have the truth lead me to the website.
Yes she donated to GOP causes since 1998. If you look I was talking about prior to 1998. Some of us have been involved in politics prior to 1998 and know a thing or two. You guys just need to ask around–it’s pretty common knowledge in Spartanburg (where I am) that Karen used to support Democratic candidates. It was covered in the Herald-Journal back in 1998 when she was running for county council. I remember back that far–others do too. She was a corporate exec at Flagstar and gave money to people like Clinton and Hollings. She is/was friends with Inez Tenenbaum and suppoted her during her first race. Dick Hapootlian, who I think was the Democrat chair in 1998, told the paper that when Floyd worked for him that she attended several fundraisers in DC for the Democrats and Clinton. So take it for what it’s worth, or ask around, or whatever. But this stuff is pretty common knowledge for anyone who has a memory that lasts longer than ten years.
If Rachel is correct she is A RINO and she should not head the Republican party. Anyone who ever gave to Clinton is not a Republican. We need to purge all RINOs from the Party. Time to get back to our roots.
Herald Journal archives only go back to 2005.
If Karen had given any money at all to any candidate prior to 1998 then those records would appear in the FEC database.
Here on the internet we don’t respect hearsay.
That is hilarious…the whole business of political blogging is based on hearsay and rumors! But I do remember this coming up in 2006 when she ran against Staton–she was trying to say he was the RINO but he pointed out that she gave money to many state and national Democrats…check Earl Capps’ blog circa 2006…
Karen Floyd???
Give me a break……….
She did absolutely nothing on County Council, Spun her wheels at her corporate job and does nothing but look nice and leave a mess behind for others to fix.
Thank goodness I’m an independent. Voted for John Anderson in 1980 and haven’t regretted it one bit. Was a big Perot supporter till he got wacko. Voted 3rd party last two prez elections and damn proud of it.
